RICHIE TOBIAS JR IS READY FOR DIRTcar ALL-STAR WEEKEND; JULY 5th DEADLINE FOR FREE PIT PASS APPROACHING QUICKLY

By Dave Roberts, DIRTcar Northeast PR

WEEDSPORT, NY_ One the northeast's more storied racing families will be sending a representative to the second annual DIRTcar All-Star Weekend on July 16-17 at the Cayuga County Fair Speedway.

Richie Tobias Jr. of Lebanon, PA will be driving a Jim Mahaney owned DIRTcar Modified for the two-day extravaganza. Tobias will also be in competition in a Speedstr chassis,   a class developed by Tobias himself. Jim's son Mike, a DIRTcar Modified feature winner at Cayuga County Fair Speedway in 2010, and Chris Stockham will also drive Tobias owned Speedstr cars on All Star Weekend.

"I'm really looking forward to the All-Star Weekend," said Tobias, who finished fifth after starting 43rd in the 2009 Rite Aid 200 at Super DIRT Week. "I've heard so much about it. Now, I'm going to try and win it."

Richie's dad Toby was a historic racing figure himself before his death in a USAC Silver Crown car in 1978. Toby was also a winner of the 1975 Schaefer 125.

The All-Star Weekend will just be the second time that Tobias has raced at Cayuga County Fair Speedway. He tried it in his own Modified creation in the early 1990's. They got through the heats before the feature got snowed out .

With the business of building the Speedstr and Slingshot chassis, Tobias admits not having a lot of time to drive a DIRTcar Modified these days. Both of his cars are built for the economics and the talents of the drivers.

"We've got over 800 of our Slingshots out there. I've been traveling the country continuing to build the program so when I get a chance to get back into a Modified, I really enjoy it."

Tobias admits he likes the direction the All-Star Weekend has headed.  "They changed the format this year. They'll run one race heads up, then invert another. I like that because that's how we do it with our Speedstrs."  "I'm looking forward to the challenge of this event. It should be a good one."

Don't forget the parade through the City of Syracuse this Tuesday, July 6. The parade will begin at Clinton Square at 11:30am with Modified Super DIRTcar Series racing stars Brett Hearn, Matt Sheppard, Jimmy Phelps, Billy Decker, Ryan Phelps and Michael Storms. The parade will end back at Clinton Square at noon where the six drivers will hold an autograph session until 2pm.
