Roy Bresnahan Uses Sail Panels And His GM 525 Engine To Cruise To The “Run What Ya Brung” Modified Feature Win At The New Cayuga County Speedway

WEEDSPORT, NY – July 3, 2011(By Dave Medler) – They came with Sprint Car wings, giant Lexan side panels, Late Model noses, sail panels, Sprint Car tires and conventional Modified bodies . When it was all said and done it was Roy Bresnahan with a set of sail panels and a GM CT 525 engine that was the class of the field in the “Run What Ya Brung” Modified show Sunday night at the New Cayuga County Speedway.

Bresnahan took the lead on lap 11 from Mike Bowman and was never challenged the rest of the way in the 30 lap feature winning by 4.916 seconds over Shane Donath who had a sprint car wing bolted to the top of his Modified.

Other winners on NYTECH Supply Night were, Justin Wright Pit Stop Convenience Stores Sportsman, Joe Reeves Stock Cars, Andrew Schartner Mod Lites, Nick Cooper Pizza Logs 600 Sprint Tour and Jerry Herbert Four Cylinder Stocks.

Mike Bowman and Roy Bresnahan brought the “Run What Ya Brung” Modified field down to the green with Bowman grabbing the early lead in the 30 lap feature.

With 5 laps complete Bowman and Bresnahan ran nose to tail and side by side for the lead. Donath ran alone in third with Ryan Susice showing in the top-five.

On lap 10 Bowman and Bresnahan crossed the line just inches apart in the battle for the lead. One lap later Bresnahan found the speed he needed as he bolted by Bowman exiting turn four to be scored the new leader.

At the halfway point Bresnahan opened a half a straightaway lead over Bowman, Donath and Tony Steiner.

With 10 laps to go Bresnahan was on cruise control out front lengthening his lead with every lap. Donath, Steiner, Bowman, Susice still ran in the top-five.

Over the remaining laps nobody seriously challenged Bresnahan as he won by over four-seconds at the checkers. Shane Donath, Tony Steiner, Mike Bowman and Mike Mahaney rounded out the top-five.

Tom Juhl led the opening 4 laps of the 25 lap Pit Stop Convenience Stores Sportsman feature before Justin Wright took over the lead on lap-five.

With 10 laps complete Wright and Dave Marcuccilli were in a two-car break away for the race lead, Tim Sears Jr. ran alone in third with James Spano and Juhl showing in the top-five.

From the halfway point to the final checkers Wright was the class of the field winning by 4.029 seconds over Marcuccilli at the checkers. Tim Sears Jr., James Spano and Tim Schneider finished third through fifth.

Over 30 Pizza Logs 600 Sprint Tour Cars signed in the pits for high speed winged action. Nick Cooper was the class of the field as he out distanced the rest of the 24 car starting field. Tyler Walker, AJ Bojino, Mike Livecchi and Cody Shurgot finished second through fifth.

Joe Reeves took the lead at the drop of the green in the 15 lap Stock car feature and looked to be heading to the easy win. Over the final laps Reeves had to hold off a fast closing Russ Marsden for his first win at the Weedsport oval.

Rick Demo led the opening 8 laps of the 15 lap Mod Lite feature before spinning on his own in turn one. That handed the lead over to Andrew Schartner who had to hold off repeated challenges from Mike Mullen to grab the popular hometown win.

Jerry Herbert backed up his win Saturday night at the Fulton Speedway by holding off Nick Werner for the win in the Four Cylinder Stocks.

This Sunday night July 9th it will be Winged Warrior Night as the Lucas Oil Empire Super Sprints and the Pizza Logs 600 Tour will invade The New Cayuga County Speedway. Also on the race card will be the Pit Stop Convenience Stores Sportsman, Stock Cars  and Four Cylinder Stocks. The Pizza Logs Big Block Modifieds will have the night off.

Pit gates will open at 4:30, Grandstand at 5:30 with racing at 7:00 Adult admission price this Sunday will $16 For adults and everyone 16 years old and younger free with a paid adult admission. Bring a ticket stub from any speedway and receive $2 off the admission price.
