ELBRIDGE, NY_ On a night where the weather was supposed to have a big effect on the racing program, Billy Decker of Unadilla, NY drove to victory in the DIRTcar Challenge Cup last Sunday night at the Rolling Wheels Raceway.

The 60 lap DIRTcar Modified feature was worth $4000 to Decker. The DIRTcar Modified star took the lead from Gary Tomkins on lap 12 and held off the advances of Danny Johnson of Rochester, NY and Jimmy Phelps of Baldwinsville, NY throughout the remainder of the race. Johnson proved to be the biggest problem for Decker as he ran up beside him several times in the later stages of the event. With five laps left, Decker finally enjoyed a comfortable lead. The real battle was now for second with Johnson and Jimmy Phelps. Johnson had held the spot for most of the race. On lap 58, Phelps moved by Danny and took over the second place spot for good.

It proved to be a good financial move for Phelps. Not only did he recieve second place money but also received a $500 gift certificate from Dig Safely New York and it's newly developed "Bonus Bucks" program. The gift certificate can be redeemed at the Weedsport, NY based Motorsports Safety Systems. The DSNY Bonus Bucks program started off it's 16 race series last Sunday night at the "Wheels." The award is determined by a drawing just before the start of the DIRTcar Modified main last Sunday night of the top ten finishing spots. DSNY representatives pick a race fan from out of the grandstands to make the drawing and last Sunday night was the second place finisher. The DSNY Bonus Buck program will also have another event at the Rolling Wheels Raceway on Sunday, July 4th.

With Johnson hanging on for third, Brett Hearn of Sussex, NJ finished in the fourth position with Tomkins in fifth.

Rounding out the top ten was Matt Sheppard of Waterloo, NY; Alan Johnson of Phelps, NY; Billy Dunn of Watertown, NY; Tom Sears Jr and Ryan Phelps of Fulton, NY.

Heat winners were Jimmy Phelps, Ton Sears Jr and Matt Sheppard. The consolation event was won by Dale Planck of Cortland, NY.

In the 20 lap DIRTcar Sportsman feature, Tim Sears Jr won his first career feature event at the "fast track" beating two time defending DIRTcar Sportsman champion Chris Raabe of Napanee, Ontario at the finish line.

Sears took the lead on lap four from Raabe and led the remainder of the race. Raabe would make challenges from time to time but Searns was in control once he took the lead.

Eric Giguere of Waterloo, NY was third followed by Jipp Ortiz of Ransomville, NY in fourth and Adam Hilton of Buffalo, NY in fifth.

Rounding out the top ten was Dave Emmons of Hannibal, NY; Tom Juhl Jr of Weedsport, NY; Justin Wright of Pifford, NY; Dan Wiesner of Geneva, NY and Rob Humphreys of Elbridge. NY.

Heat winners were Dave Marcuccilli of Cayuga, NY, Chris Raabe and Eric Giguere. The consolation event was won by Nick Guererri of Waterloo, NY.

In the 15 lap DIRTcar Stock Car feature, Frank Burnell and Andy Fisk battled for the entire distance with Burnell holding off the hot running Fisk at the finish line.

Fisk, of Williamson, NY, is already two for two on the season at Canandaigua Speedway and was looking for another win, but it Burnell, of Waterloo, NY running just a little bit faster to pick up his first victory of the season.

Third placer went to Mike Rasbeck of Lyons, NY followed by Jack Terrell of Jamesville, NY and Mike Welch of Lyons, NY.

The heat race winner was Andy Fisk.

The next event on the Rolling Wheels Raceway schedule is on Sunday, June 6 when the DIRTcar big block Modifieds run 50 laps.
