By: Steve Pados, GA Motorsports Media
With the most updated weather forecasts predicting impending heavy thunderstorms throughout the Northeast, the Smith Family is forced to cancel out the entire racing program scheduled for this evening at the Hamlin Speedway. The event will not be re-scheduled in 2012.
The final attraction for the season at the Hamlin Speedway will be September 15th as the All Star Slingshots will headline the racing action in a fifty lap, $1,000.00 to win Tour event that will include the always unpredictable Pit Stop Challenge as part of the main event. Last season "The Rockaway Rocket" Danny Buccafusca led through the first portion of the event only to see "Chargin" Charlie Lawrence win the PSC portion and go on to race to victory. The "stars of tomorrow" Junior Slingshots will also take part in a National Tour event that currently shows second generation driving talent Brandon McGill with a ninety point advantage over Hamlin/Accord hot shoe Jared LaBagh. All divisions will take part in the finale at Hamlin as once again the speedway has enjoyed an incredible and spectacular season in 2012 as the racing has been over the top with each division putting it's best foot forward in regards to excitement and crowd pleasing performances. With car counts averaging 145 per week, the loyal base of racing fans has been treated to a well rounded show and the roster of driving stars is the visual proof the future of auto racing in the small car racing divisions is thriving. Despite the cancellation this evening, the speedway has completed seventeen successful shows and the management and staff are seeking to close out the season in a blaze of glory on Spetember 15th.
