The "Flying Dutchman" Michael Raskovic Wins Big with E98 Ethanol-Powered American Ethanol SuperTruck at Madison International Speedway Proving Once Again That the Big Oil-Created Myth of "Blend-Wall" Does Not Exist
18 year-old Michael Raskovic of New Glarus WI, and driver of the American Ethanol-Sponsored #14 SuperTruck has been so close to wins in 2015 but just couldn't get closure...that is until this past weekend's race with the Midwest Truck Series at Madison International Speedway where Raskovic did a stellar job wheeling the racer on the outside lane to hold off current points leader,Camden Murphy,(Itasca, IL), for the checkered flag!
With consistent top 10 and top 5 finishes so far this season, including a second place finish in the twin 25s at Jefferson Speedway this season, the "Flying Dutchman" had set his sights on a win at his home track at Madison Wisconsin this past weekend and managed to pull it off while wheeling the racer on the outside groove of the track wining the feature event!
Raskovic started the feature in the outside of row three and made steady progress towards the front to gain the 4th position early in the race. Raskovic then made easy work of passing the 30 of Josh James(Saukville,WI),on the inside to capture the third spot. A few laps later, the 2nd place SuperTruck of Chester Ace(Oregon WI), made contact with the 9 of Derek Kraus(Stratford,WI),who was leading the race and both were forced to the rear of the field for the restart.
With fresh air in front of him and the first option of lane on a cone restart, the "Flying Dutchman" opted to shock the crowd and make a dramatic move by choosing to take the outside groove, leaving his Ethanol Teammate Kevin Knuese on the pole and Murphy on the outside of row 2. His crew chief, Pete Raskovic, was really surprised by the move and commented; "Mike watched our former late-model driver, Zach Riddle, win three in a row on the outside here a few years back and that really caught his attention, but I truly didn't think that he would take that lane, but he's the driver and he knew what his SuperTruck was capable of doing tonight. It was really impressive."
Pulling out in front, he left the 33 of Knuese and the 85 of Murphy to battle it out for the second spot, with Murphy securing the second spot within a few laps and now setting his sights on the "Dutchman". The last dozen laps saw Murphy trying to look inside of the 14 of Raskovic lap after lap,but again Raskovic would have nothing to do with it. Murphy was dogged by an agressive Knuese but with two laps to go, Murphy made a last-ditch effort to pass on the inside. The two Supertrucks battled as the white flag flew. Raskovic, never giving up the lead, was still hanging tough on the outside lane. Out of turn four,a race to the checkers ensued and Murphy pulled to the inside of Raskovic, but the Raksovic was not to be denied his first career win in a SuperTruck and with the crowd on its feet, the "Flying Dutchman" powered under the checkered flag to win the race by an amazing .040 seconds! The E98 Powered SuperTruck of teammate Knuese took the third place honors!
After the race, the young driver commented; "The #14 American Ethanol SuperTruck was spot-on tonight and was really, really great on the outside, so I took advantage of the situation. Wherever I put it, it would stick. I am so blessed to have the honor of having my first career win at my home track, Madison International Speedway. It was a great night for Ethanol!"
Raskovic went on to thank his sponsors and ethanol partners, including the Wisconsin Corn Growers Association,Wisconsin Corn Promotion Board,American Ethanol/Growth Energy,Hass Grain Farms,The Farm Report with Pam Jahnke,UWGP Ethanol,Badger State Ethanol,United Cooperative,The Welsh Group,Figi Insurance and Financial, Pleasant Grain,Juda Grain,TD Graphics,Odyssey Greek Yogurt,Keystone Farms Cheese and Ethanol Racing Research.
