Stoyer-Hitzler Repeat while Smith wins two features in one night

Ross Perchak shot to the race lead from his fourth starting spot in the RTS Chassis sponsored 270 Micro Sprint feature race. Perchak led the race until lap seven when second place starter Josh Stoyer ran into the race lead. Perchak started to fade before he went into the pit area with an issue. Stoyer drove away from Scott Gingrich on his way to his 13th Linda's Speedway win. Gingrich, who came from his 11th starting spot into second, got passed on the last lap by Brandon Heist after a lap 24 yellow flag bunched the field up. Point leader Logan Diehl started 10th and drove to fourth and for the second week in a row Brad Brown went from 15th to finish inside the top five. Mike Boyer started 17th and drove quickly through the field to finish in sixth. 19th, 20th, and 21st place starters Pete Skias, Mason Peters, and Dave Williams, along with Nick Skias rounded out the top ten finishers. Heat races for the 32 car field went to Stoyer, Heist, Perchak, and Cory Myers. Boyer and Devin Harron were consi winners.

The 270 Micro Sprints are back into action next weekend with their first handicapping race of the year followed by their King of the Wing time trial race on the 15th of May.

Green is considered a bad luck omen in racing. Jason Swavely switched to a green car in 2015. So far this season it looked like he was falling into the bad luck. That ended Friday night when the Douglasville native went back to victory lane in the Hoosier Tire Wingless 600 Micro Sprint Iron Cowboy 25. Swavely is now two for two in Iron Cowboy races at the track. Zach Bealer took the early race lead with Steve Whary in toe. Bealer and Whary went side by side for the race lead when they made contact and Swavely darted by. Once he was out front, Swavely checked out while Whary moved to second. Bealer settled for third, with Robbie Hocker and Eric Whitby rounding out the top five. Jarid Kunkle raced with the leaders much of the event and finished in sixth. 20th place starter Pj Williams and Bruce Ginther came from the tail to finish seventh and eighth. Nick Walton along with Skylar Sheriff were the top ten finishers. Swavely set quick time with Hocker, Sheriff, and Whary winning heat races. Steve Ricchione was the redemption spot entry, but was unable to start.

Chris Smith is a former Charger champion, but has had his struggles over the past few seasons. Smith returned to his winning ways in the Eash's towing Chargers Friday night with two straight wins... in the same night! The Chargers were racing a makeup from last week, April 24, to start the night's action. Smith led the whole race while being pressure by defending champion Eric Hollenbach. Hollenbach was passed at the scoring line at the end of the race by teammate Troy Hostetter for second. Leroy Long and Justin Good rounded out the top five finishers. The Chargers returned to the track after heat races, and although it was a couple of hours later the line up looked the same.

Hollenbach and Smith shared the front row and their battled waged into part two. Smith again got the race lead early, but as the event went on it became apparent that that his car was ailing. Hollenbach attempted many times to make a pass while trying to hold off Josh Michael. Hollenbach had one last shot off turn four coming to the checkered flag when he got to the number on the side of Smith's car before Smith bolted across the line for his second win of the night.

Hollenbach settled for the bridesmaid position while Josh Michael came across in third. Troy Hostetter and Ed Hollenbach rounded out the top five finishers from the 15 lap event. The Chargers return on the 15th of May and then again on the 29th for the annual Jonestown Throwdown match race event.

Dave Grube won a majority of the races in 2014 in the Gutshall Automotive 125 Micro Sprints. Grube was back at it again in the season opening event in 2015 as he went from last to first in the heat race to win and then finished the feature in the same spot. Grube led each lap of the feature with Zach Hollinger dogging him for much of the race. The racing from second on back was wild and tight. Tajae Adams started last and charged to the third spot passing Brooklyn Shearer at the end. Shearer had a strong top five run and was joined by Corey Schmuck inside the top five. Briana Gerhart was sixth, Brie Weiler seventh, David Brown, and Cory Lawyer were the finishers of the feature.

Richie Hitzler knows two speeds. One is full bore and the other is slow and steady. Two years ago, Hitzler started the Dayne’s Automotive Modified season on a winning streak that led him to his first title.

Last season he was winless in his championship campaign. Now in 2015 he is two for two winning Friday’s first point paying event for the Modifieds. Hitzler started the last two races in ninth driving his family owned number nine and has won them both. Friday it was a mid race pass of Michael Burrows that did the trick. Burrows passed early leader Skylar Sheriff before leading up to the half way mark. A restart gave Hitzler the chance he needed. Hitzler and Burrows were followed across the line by Sheriff, Jason Dunkleberger, and Aaron Bowes in a caution plagued event. Charles Bowers, Josh Bewley, Brian Blankenbiller, Andrew Ace and Dakota Kohler completed the first ten across the line.

Next Friday Night, May 8th, Linda’s Speedway is right back in action with the RTS Chassis sponsored 270 Micro Sprints as well as rookie 270 Micro Sprints. Also on the schedule are the Winged Hoosier Tire 600 Micro Sprints in two 15 lap feature events. The West Side Auto Body Slingshots are back in action and it is the season opener for the Linda’s Speedway Legend Cars. Gates open at 5:30, Hot Laps are at 7 and racing to follow.
