Whary wins Power Down- Fall Brawl to Maurer

Gruber- Gerhart- Chary clinch titles

Bradley Brown and Jesse Maurer worked all night to get into position to face off in the last match race of the first Fall Brawl for the RTS Chassis sponsored 270 Micro Sprints. The final race was estimated to have been decided by less than two inches based off of the time difference. Brown was the winner and was given the chance to start last for $1,000 to win bonus. Brown took the offer and went from the first starting spot to 23rd. Maurer then moved to the pole and after an early race battle with Scott Gingrich, showed the way. As the 30 lap main event ran on, Maurer looked like the car to beat as Brown made his way through the field. A late race yellow gave a hard charging duo of Kyle Weiss and Devin Harron a shot at the race leader, but Maurer would fend off their challenges for the win. It was an extra special win for the “Mt Joy Outlaw” as Saturday is his wedding day. Maurer’s fiancé Samantha was in victory lane to greet him. This win also moved Maurer into the ten win club at the Speedway. Weiss ended up second with Harron in third. Kenny Miller III made the best of a rare 270 Micro Sprint start at the track with a fourth. His team mate for the night, Jarid Kunkle, came from 18th to finish in fifth. Another hard charger, Jacob Dunn, started 15th and drove to sixth, the Liquid Nitro quick timer Collin Ginther was seventh, Brown ended up eighth, Nunzi Allegrucci and Pete Skias made up the top ten. Brown said afterward that more cautions would have helped him early in the race as the field went to lap 14 before the yellow was seen for the first time. Maurer, Gingrich, Harron, and Miller III were heat winners with Jacob Dunn and Richie Hartman taking consolations. Next to Brown, Kunkle gained the most spots and was credited with the Amy’s Photos Hard Charger award. Quinn Roberts received a bonus for finishing 12th in memory of DJ Furney.

Steve Whary said in victory lane that Lady Luck was on his side after his win in the Hoosier Tire 600 Micro Sprint Power Down race. That might have been an understatement. Whary came into the night second in the point standings and he was second in the race on lap 20 when things started to go his way. Point leader Hayden Miller slowed to the infield with a problem. A mere three laps later Tyler Walton, who dominated the event up to that point, got caught with a spinning car and was taken out of the race. Walton had led each lap after earning the pole with a passing point format. Whary held onto the top spot and used a win to clinch his second championship in a row in the Winged 600 Micro Sprints. Justin Whittall made a late race pass of Zach Light for the runner up spot. A strong run for Rob Pajauis as he came home fourth and Jim Young was fifth. Kenny Harris III, Jason Sechrist, Eric Ankiewitz, Dan Souder were sixth through ninth. Walton was credited with tenth. Dan Braun, Steve Whary, and Tyler Walton won heat races with Walton and Zach Light taking the qualifier wins.

The West Side Auto Body Slingshots have raced all season and the point battle came down to one last race. Cody Kline had his back against the wall going into the season finale as Kyle Gruber took the point lead with only one race to go. Kline shot into the race lead in the feature and did everything he could do to win the title. Gruber had to start in the middle of the field and spend much of the early laps in a crazy battle. Gruber had worked to fourth when the race had a pretty big turning point. Brett Bieber was in second on lap 12 when his engine let go spewing oil all over the outside of the track. Bieber did his best to get out of the way, but third place BJ Antonio spun because of the oil. Fourth place Gruber just missed it. Gruber then moved to second taking the cushion Kline had away. Dylan Hoch jumped to the runner up spot on the restart and chased Kline while Gruber settled in. Kline went on to take the checkered flag for the season ending event. It was Kline’s fifth checkered flag of the season. Hoch was second and Gruber was third, clinching the Slingshot track title. Great runs for Alex Yankowski and Dave Carraghan inside the top five. Antonio came back for sixth with Lindsey Garl, Alex Schmiedel, Scott Gray, and Dawson Landis rounding out the top ten. Antonio and Bieber were the heat race winners.

Chase Gutshall was not in the mix of the Gutshall’s Automotive 125 Micro Sprint point championship so he went for broke Friday night. Gutshall won the last 125 Micro Sprint feature with a cast on his hand. Friday night he was cast free and dominant in the feature event. Gutshall drove to a three second win over Justin Harrington. Harrington made a mid race pass of Tajae Adams who finished third. Adams made some challenges for the lead early on knowing that his only chance to beat Brianna Gerhart was to try to win the race. Kyle Heiney and Zach Hollinger rounded out the top five finishers. Gerhart came across in sixth to lock down her first 125 Micro Sprint championship. She becomes only the second lady driver to win the title at Linda’s Speedway. Scott Renninger, Brandon Yoder, Austin Graby, and Kory Merkey were the top ten. Gutshall also won the heat race held for the 125 Micro Sprints.

Amber Oraschin won the mechanics race for the Slingshots in Dylan Hoch’s number 35. Oraschin held of Hayden Miller and John Kahn for the win.

Next Friday, October 2nd, the ARDC Midgets return to Linda’s Speedway for their season finale. Also in action will be the 270 and Wingless 600 Micro Sprints and the Modifieds. Gates open at 5 and hot laps are at 7. Admission to the grandstands will be $8 and the pit pass for the night will be $25.
