Sidewinder Sprints – Lindas – Smith was hot despite the cold
Al Gore.. where are you?? So much for global warming. You could easily have thought it was the last week of March, not the last week of May such was the bone chilling breeze and low nighttime temperatures. All credit must go to the staff at Linda’s for not throwing in the towel. Despite a rain delay and the cold temps, the track crew worked diligently to keep the surface in a raceable condition.
With the pill draw putting Linda’s regular Tanner Hunsicker on the pole for the first feature, he became the odds on favorite and didn’t disappoint the bookmakers with a convincing win. It became a Linda’s regular 1 – 2 with Josh Sell making the most of his front row start to come home 2nd. The action was behind when on the 2nd lap, a slowing Rohan Beasley bunched the field resulting in Brandon Yarlett performing a barrel roll in the air landing on his wheels with surprisingly no wing damage. Unfortunately Yarlett’s resulting front axle damage couldn’t quite be repaired in time for the second feature.
The second feature saw Rich Halter lead the first 6 laps before Linda’s regular Brad Smith used his home track knowledge to his advantage to take over the lead. From there Smith was unchallenged and took his maiden win. Halter held on to 2nd , Mike Zielonis made it into 3rd with a charging Hunsicker making it into 4th.
The overall nights totals saw Brad Smith edge out Tanner Hunsicker by a mere 2 points. The Linda’s regulars put a whipping on the Sidewinders and no doubt the Sidewinder teams will be looking for revenge in their rematch later in the season.
