Miller, Marlatt, Waters, Birdsall, and Daugherty also victorious.
By Paul Harkenrider
(WOODHULL NY) 2013 has certainly been the year for the Insinger Performance 370 Modified’s as Saturday nights 25 lap feature was certainly a thriller. Kevin Chilson that started on the inside pole was able to get out to the early race lead, separating himself from the rest of the field, but lap traffic became a factor in the green to checkered run which gave Eric Fisher the opportunity to come within winning contention. Kevin Chilson led the first 24 and ¾ laps but once the checkered flag was dropped, at the line it was Eric Fisher by a tire. Kevin Chilson had to settle for the runner up spot, followed by Mike Bills, Kenny Peoples Jr and Billy VanPelt. Heats went to Dylan Dewert, Donnie Lawson, and Fisher.
The 360 S&W Awards and Photos 360 Late Models 25 lap feature was also thrilling as it was a battle between a trio of Allegheny county stars. For the first 21 laps it was a battle between Jeremy Wonderling and John Waters while Bruce Miller was running closely behind in third. Then on lap 22, Waters and Wonderling collided which made both cars stall coming out of turn two. Bruce Miller was able to fly on by with a full head of steam, lead the rest of the way and pick up his second feature of the year. Jeremy Wonderling finished in second followed by Waters, Josh Smith and Jason Knowles. Heats were granted to Glen Whritenour, John Waters and Bruce Miller.
In the green to checkered, non stop Joe Willcox Performance Street Stock class, it was Brett Marlatt picking up his 8th feature and which he reclaimed the point lead for the 2013 racing season. Kurt Stebbins finished in second, Ted Morseman finished in 3rd, followed by Cory Costa and Tracy Dunn. Heats went to Jeff Smith and Brett Marlatt.
In the NAPA Crate Sportsman, it was Chris Daugherty picking up yet another feature. Ray Smith finished in second followed by Josh Sawyer, John Hargrave and Bob Buono. Daugherty increased the point lead over John Hargrave by 10 points with just 3 point races remaining. Heat winners went to Josh Sawyer and Brett Buono.
The Open Crate Late Models made their one and only appearance of the Woodhull racing season and it was a battle between the top 4 cars, all of which that were former Woodhull competitors. Picking up the win was former 360 Late Model competitor Dustin Waters. Brian Knowles finished in second followed by Bryce Davis, Wayne Robertson and Jason Genco rounded out the top 5.
The Mini Stocks and Front Wheel Drives classes combined their classes in a Quad C event and picking up the feature win was a former Track champion in the Front Wheel Drives in Joseph Birdsall who won over Carl LeBarron. Jake McConnell was 3rd followed by Dan Mitchell and Matt Prescott making it a FWD sweep of the top five. Birdsall and McConnell were also heat winners.
Next week, the Patriot Sprint Tour is making up their show that was washed out on July 27th. 5 of Woodhull’s regular classes will see action including the Quad C. Gates open at 4:30 and racing at 6:30.
