BILLY VANPELT FINALLY RETURNS BACK TO VICTORY LANE!!

Writenour, Morseman, Smith and Morseman also returning back to victory lane

By Paul Harkenrider

(Woodhull NY) If you were to describe Woodhull Raceway’s Saturday night show presented by Colonial Hotel and Lamb and Webster, one particular word would be,  redemption as all 5 feature winners returned back to victory lane for the first time in over a month.

Bill VanPelt who has not won since June 8th returned back to victory lane in the Insinger Performance 370 Modifieds, but it was no easy task in doing so. Kenny Peoples and Bobby Davis, who started out front, led the first opening laps before the two “in laws” collided on corner number 2 bringing out an early caution and sent them both to the rear of the field. This made opened up the door for Donnie Lawson to take over the top spot on the restart, but here came  the long time veteran from Harrison Valley, Pennsylvania passing the current point leader on the outside on lap number 11. VanPelt would not look back and he would cruise to pick up his second checkered flag of the 2013 season. Donnie Lawson finished in the second-place spot, followed by Alan Rudalavage, Steve Hartman Jr, and Eric Fisher. Heats were granted to Ron White, Brian Doolittle and Frank Dunning.

The S&W Awards 360 Late Models put on another spectacular show as John Waters started on the outside and was an early favorite to win the 25 lap feature. Waters had a great start leading the first 10 laps, and then the caution flag flew a number of different times which gave Glen Writenour the ability to move into the runner up spot to challenge Waters for the lead. As laps ticked Writenour got side by side with Waters and able to get a good run underneath to take over the lead but this race was far from over and Waters came charging once again, unfortunately got a little too high and lost a lot of ground on the race leader. Writenour then opened up his lead to almost 10 car lengths, then on lap 23, Waters got too loose coming out of turn two, spinning out on his own which brought out the yellow caution flag with two laps left and Waters was in the rear of the field. But here came Bruce Miller trying get around Writenour but was unable to make it two in a row and Glen Writenour moved in closer on the point lead which sets up an exciting final two weeks in the point standings!

Also setting up for a great ending to the 2013 season is the Joe Wilcox Performance Street Stocks. Back in victory lane for the first time since July 13th was Teddy Morseman. Morseman had to battle with Kurt Stebbins for a number of laps but cranked it a bit too hard to let Morseman scoot on by and win his 5th feature in 2013. Kurt Stebbins had to settle for the runner up spot, followed by Brett Marlatt, Clint Button was 4th and Tracy Dunn rounded out the top 5.

The NAPA Crate Sportsman had 26 cars registered in for their 25 lap feature and winning his 4th feature of the year and for the first time since July 5th was Ray Smith. Smith nick named the “bottom feeder” used that low side to his advantage holding off Chris Daugherty to pick up his 4th feature of the year. Rookie of the Year contender, Josh Sawyer finished in 3rd followed by Brett Buono with Ray Bliss Jr. finishing in 5th.

The Mini Stocks and Front Wheel Drives combined their classes for the final time of the 2013 racing season and picking up the win was none other than Brandon Morseman. Morseman had a number of front wheel drives on his back bumper but was able to hold off and pick up his second Quad C win of the year. Carl Labarron was 2nd followed by Joe Birdsall,  Jaye McConnell was 4th with Wes Houghtaling rounding  out the top 5.
