The New Year isn’t here yet, but racing is on everyone’s minds and the first race of the season is literally just around the corner.
Back by popular demand will be the Second Annual “Polar Bear 100”. The 100-lap enduro event paying $1,000 to win will be held Saturday February 5. The event is open to anybody with a 4 or 6 cylinder car that conforms to the event rules.
“This race is a lot of fun,” said Dan Bainey, director of operations. “Last season we only had about one month’s notice for the teams and fans and had a great turnout. The hill was packed and the race was a blast to watch.  I’m expecting a pretty good car turnout this year.”
The race goes 100 laps, non-stop, unless there is a roll-over, fire, the track is blocked or someone is in jeopardy of being injured. The crashed cars stay where they stop and the field must maneuver around them to finish the race.
Each racer must have a scorer with them.
“After last seasons race I heard from all kinds of people that they were putting together an enduro car for the Polar Bear,” Bainey said. “So, for all you guys and gals who come watch the racing at the Big Bear this is your opportunity to say that you not only raced, but won an event on the big track. The rules are pretty simple, get a car, put in a basic cage and do some minor modifications and you’re ready to race.”
“Polar Bear 100” entry fee is $50 until January 2 and $100 after that. The event is limited to the first150 cars. Entry fee admits driver and car in the pits.
Registration is now open. The car numbers will be given in the order registrations are received. The winner will receive $1,000 with second getting $500; third, $400; fourth  $300 and fifth $200.
Pit gates will open at 9 a.m. with general admission gates and hill side gates opening at 11 a.m. with racing scheduled for 12:30 p.m.
Admission is $5 for general admission, $10 for the hillside, a family pass with parking is $25 and the pit admission is $20.
