Roaring Knob Up Next for UFo on June 12, TVR Rescheduled for June 19!
(MARS PA) - The next event on the UFo Race Championship tour is the "Laurel Highlander"
at the Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex, on Saturday night, June 12. The UFo Super
Late Models will compete in a 38-lap championship feature paying $2,500 to win.
The "Laurel Highlander" will mark the 1st of 4 appearances of the UFo Super Late
Models in 2010 at Roaring Knob under the new ownership of Oval Track Promotions
and Rick Jones. The 4th appearance will be "The New Ultimate" in October, which
will be the season finale for the tour. Roaring Knob experienced 2 of the 3 highest
car counts for the UFo tour in 2010. Jeremy Miller, John Mollick and DJ Myers have
captured the 3 previous UFo events run at Roaring Knob.
The FASTRAK Pro-Lates, E-mods, Street Stocks & Chargers will also be in competition
at Roaring Knob. Pit gates will open at 4:30, grandstands at 5:00 with warm-ups
at 6:15 and racing at 7:00 PM. Adult grandstand admission will be $15, Children
6-11 $5 and pits $30.
The "Shawn McGarvey Showdown" UFo Race Championship event that was rained out last
weekend has been rescheduled for Saturday, June 19. This event will mark the 1st-ever
appearance of the UFo Super Late Models at this Laurel Highlands race track.
The "Shawn McGarvey Showdown" is a tribute to multi-time TVR Limited Late Model
track champion who was lost in a work-related accident in 2009. Shawn was a full-time
competitor on the UFo Race Championship in the 2008 season and finished 5th in the
final points. He also captured track championships at Dog Hollow Speedway and Central
PA Speedway.
The UFo Super Late Models will compete in a 38P-lap feature event paying $2,508P,
in honor of Shawn's car number. A full program of extended lap heat races and consolation(s)
will determine the starting grid. TVR, with its park-like setting, offers both grandstand
seating and hillside seating for lawn chairs. TVR has attracted full fields of Super
Late Models at its 2010 events. With the track's central location and its strong
field of home track competitors, an excellent field of UFo Super Late Models is
expected for this East vs. West face-off.
TVR's Semi-Late/Street Stocks, Pure Stocks and 4-Cylinders will round out the racing
program. Gates will open at 5:00 with warm-ups at 7:00 and racing at 7:30 PM. Tickets
will be $20 for the Grandstands for ages 11 and over, and $28 for the pits.
John Mollick of Toronto, OH took control of the UFo Race Championship point standings
after a win last weekend in the "F-2 Shockwave" at PPMS. Chad McClellan of Stoystown,
PA sits only 5 points behind and is a favorite at TVR with multiple feature wins
at that track. Keith Barbara of South Park, PA sits in 3rd with Jared Miley also
of South Park in 4th and Tony Musolino of Scott Township, PA in 5th. Tommy Beck
of Jeannette, PA, Denton Boyer of Puxsutawney, PA, Doug Eck of Corry, PA, Greg Oaks
of Franklinville, NY and John Flinner of Zelienople, PA round out the top 10.
