HESSTON, PA - Hesston Speedway beat the rain on Saturday with a two hour 30 minute program for four divisions with Rance Garlock picking up the limited late model feature win for his first victory of the year.
Bill Henney and Khi Swanger split the street stock features while Gary Morder won the hobby feature and Paul Bacchus won the Vintage car feature.
Matt Parks and Rance Garlock led the limited late models to the start for the 20 lap feature with Parks taking the lead at the start with Garlock in second and Mike Duck third. The race lead changed on lap three, when Garlock went under around Parks for the lead.
Aside from a quick caution at the start the race was non-stop with Garlock setting a torrid pace. As the feature event continued Mike Shoemaker and Derek Byler were battling with Robby Garlock for third and when Todd Lynn finally waved the checkered flag, it was all Rance Garlock ahead of Parks, Shoemaker, Byler and Robby Garlock. Heat wins went to Derek Byler, Tim Smith Jr. and Mike Shoemaker.
The street stock feature was led to the start by Jesse Snyder and Wayne Irvin with Snyder taking he lead and setting the pace. He led for five laps before Bill Henney went to the outside and took the lead on lap six. Once he had the lead Snyder battled back, but he lost second to Cris Edwards Jr. who didn’t have enough power to reel in Henney. At the line it was Henney over Edwards, Jarrett Walker, Snyder and Tim Brindle. Heat wins went to Khi Swanger and Bill Heney.
The first lap of the hobby feature was led by Carl Snare from the outside of the front row with Jeff Shoemaker on the pole. Shoemaker brought to race down to a quick yellow by blowing the engine entering turn one. On the restart Gary Morder took the lead and set the pace with Snare in second and Terry Norris third. While the top three were battling seventh place starter Josh Berrier was headed to the front and by the 11th lap he was in third and working on Snare for second. He took that position on lap 14 and tried to reel in Morder but ran out of time. At the line it was Morder over Berrier, Snare, Chris Chaney and Joe Dearmitt. Jeff Shoemaker, Carl Snare and Gary Morder won the heats.
The make-up street stock feature was also led to the green by Wayne Irvin and Jesse Snyder. Snyder took the lead and was looking for his first career win. As he led he had to fend off randy Wible, then Khi Swanger, but he could only hold off Swanger for eight laps, as Swanger took the lead on lap 14 and led the final two laps for the win. Snyder lost second to Bill Henney, Wible was fourth and Cris Edwards Jr. was fifth. The heats on June 21 were won by Bill Henney and Tom Williams.
The vintage car feature was won by Paul Bacchus. He led the race from start to finish. One caution slowed the event when Lloyd Hockenberry blew the engine. The top five were: Bacchus, Fred Thompson, Rick Pastor, Stew Wenrich and Ed Gutshall.
