FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE PLEASE WITH OUR THANKS
DALLENBACH, SR. AND HYLTON TO PLAY A MAJOR PART IN TRENTON SPEEDWAY TRIBUTE AT MOTORSPORTS 2009
ATLANTIC CITY, NJ December 15, 2008 . . . Former New Jersey resident Wally Dallenbach Sr. will be returning to his home state to participate in the Trenton International Speedway Tribute that will be a major part of Motorsports 2009 at Atlantic City’s Convention Center January 16-17th.
In the early-1960s, Dallenbach was a standout performer in the Modified stock cars with many wins at the long-closed, half-mile paved Vineland Speedway, located not far from Atlantic City. He took victories as well at New Jersey’s Old Bridge Stadium and Wall Township Speedway. He then moved on to become a popular competitor in Indianapolis car competition with multiple starts in the Indianapolis 500. Among his wins on that circuit was the April 30, 1977 Indy Car race at Trenton International Speedway. Dallenbach closed out his career in motorsports working as competition director for the now defunct Championship Auto Racing Teams sanctioning organization.
“Wally is looking forward to coming back to the Garden State and being part of the show and the Trenton Speedway tribute,” said show organizer Len Sammons. “Being part of the show will give Wally a chance to get back to visit some friends and I am sure many of his friends and racing buddies will be visiting with him at Motorsports 2009.”
Some show attendees may want to ask Wally about his 1965 season, when he raced at Trenton Speedway and in other events under the name of Bob Dunham in the United Racing Company (URC) Sprint Cars.
Joining Dallenbach as part of the Trenton International Speedway tribute will be NASCAR stock car racing legend James Hylton. Just recently Hylton, 74 years old, announced that he would be trying to qualify for the Daytona 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup race in February.
Hylton has remained very active in the sport and just finished a full season of competition on the ARCA RE/MAX circuit and he did compete on the NASCAR Nationwide circuit.
Hylton did race in all six of the Northern 300 NASCAR Grand National (now Sprint Cup) races run at Trenton. His best finishes were two fourth places, one in 1969 and again in 1971.
Both Hylton and Dallenbach should prove to be popular with attendees at the Motorsports 2009 Race Car and Trade show. A special poster commemorating the Trenton Speedway Tribute will be available with photos of Dallenbach, Hylton and many others.
The Trenton Speedway Tribute will be a major part of the two day, January 16-17th, show which will also feature more than 250 race vehicles on display. The show, will more than 400 exhibit spaces, will fill nearly 300,000 square feet of the huge hall.
A number of national, local and regional racers will be on hand to meet fans and sign autographs.
NASCAR Sprint Cup stars Kevin Harvick and Joey Logano will be signing autographs as will NASCAR Camping World Truck Series champion Johnny Benson. Drag racing will be well represented by Top Fuel racer Antron Brown, Pro Stock racer Kenny Koretsky, motorcycle drag racers Angie McBride and Matt Smith.
Several industry seminars will be available free to show attendees along with track displays (2009 racing schedules available) and the always popular U.S. Tobacco Ms. Motorsports competition.
And just down the street from the Motorsports 2009 show the Gambler’s Classic Indoor racing events will be presented at Boardwalk Hall each evening.
