DUANE HOWARD CROWNED AMERICAN RACER EAST COAST MODIFIED CUP OVERALL CHAMPION.  TITLE EARNS HOWARD $10,000 ALONG WITH TEN FREE AMERICAN RACER TIRES FOR FALL EVENTS.

BINGHAMTON, NY Duane Howard capped off an outstanding 2010 season at Grandview Speedway(PA) with his eighth feature victory of the season on Saturday and in the process locked up the title in the American Racer East Coast Modified Cup Overall Championship.  The title earned Howard $10,000 along with ten American Racer Tires courtesy of Lias Tire and American Racer.

Howard entered the evening tied with fellow Grandview Speedway competitor Craig VonDohren.  VonDohren controlled his own fate entering the event.  VonDohren only needed to finish second or better to ensure at least a tie for the overall title.  CVD had to qualify through the consolation event and was only able to rally up to fourth in the feature event.  Howard needed to win entering the evening and he did just that.  Recording his eighth victory Howard was able to lock up the first ever American Racer East Coast Modified Cup title.

Five Mile Point Speedway(NY) point leader Stewart Friesen entered the evening needing a feature win to stay alive in the overall ECM hunt.  Friesen overcame a lap one flat tire after a jingle sent him to the pits.  Friesen re-started in the 26th position and charged to his tenth victory of the season at the historic quarter mile oval.

The victory enabled Friesen to tie VonDohren for second place in the overall title.  Friesen and VonDohren each earned $4,250 for their second place tie in the standings. As the Five Mile Point Speedway Track Champion Friesen will also earn ten free American Racer tires for the big season ending events.

Woodhull Raceway (NY) weekly campaigner Billy VanPelt wound up fourth in the overall standings with an outstanding eleven feature wins in twenty-two starts at the high banked oval.  VanPelt will earn $2,500 for his fourth place finish in the overall standings along with ten free American Racer tires for his Woodhull Raceway track title.

Legendary driver Billy Pauch completed the top five in the overall ECM Cup title.  Pauch led the New Egypt (NJ) Speedway contingent in the 2010 point race.  Pauch will receive $2,000 for the ECM Cup and 10 free American Racer tires for the season ending fall events.

For Howard the $10,000 overall title money may be only the beginning.  Should Howard win the overall Race of Champions Dart Dirt Modified Tour title he would earn a $20,000 bonus from Lias Tire and American Racer Tires.  Howard currently sits third in the overall standings behind point leader Stewart Friesen and Danny Johnson.  Only two races remain in that tour including Accord Speedway’s “King of the Catskills” on Friday, September 24th and the Southern Tier 100 at Five Mile Point Speedway on Saturday, October 30th.

The 2010 Ameican Racer East Coast Modified Cup was a tremendous success for not only the participating speedway’s but the drivers involved in the program.  Over $100,000 in cash and products will be distributed from the first year program.
