BETHEL, NY – While the Northeast is considered to be officially in the racing “offseason”, the staff at Bethel Motor Speedway is far from relaxing, as many projects and improvements have been underway in the two months since cars last turned laps around the ¼-mile asphalt oval.

Last month, equipment rolled into the track, carrying well over 400 tons of fresh asphalt that was used to resurface the track. Prior to the start of the 2010 season, an inside lane had been added to the racing surface, effectively widening the racing surface. Additional asphalt was laid one lane up from the new asphalt, from the center of turns three and four to the flag stand, with two weeks remaining in the season in order to eliminate a bump that had developed in turn four. At a time when few short tracks are making costly capital improvements, the most recent paving project is testament to the success the track has experienced since coming under new ownership in 2008, while also guaranteeing a new lease on life for the racing surface that is expected to span many years.

Further proof of the track’s dedication to the future is the emphasis that continues – even during the offseason – to be placed on the Young Racers Program. The majority of drivers who participate in the program are drivers in the Bandolero division, which has grown by double digits since the program’s inception. In addition to offering driver training tips and setup advice, the Young Racers Program also offers assistance to those drivers who may not have access to the means to get started in racing. In both 2009 and 2010, the Young Racers Program made it possible for Bethel Motor Speedway to waive the pit entry fee for Bandolero drivers.

To raise funds for the Young Racers Program, Bethel is raffling off a new Legends car, something that was successfully done last year. Tickets are priced at $100 each, with a maximum of 200 tickets being sold. The raffle drawing will be scheduled as soon as all of the tickets are sold, but it will be held no later than February 26, 2011. The retail value of the car being raffled off is $12,995. Last year’s winner was Glenn Dixon of Long Island.

Tickets can be purchased through PayPal, and will also be available at several locations. A list of locations and further details are available at Information can also be obtained by calling (845) 319-7908 (option #2).
