FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ----- RE: Selinsgrove Ice Breaker VIII

SELINSGROVE SPEEDWAY OPENS 2015 ROC DIRT TOUR SATURDAY, MARCH 14;

One Day Show, with Sunday Raindate, to Showcase RoC Modifieds and Sportsman

MT. CARMEL , PA…December 18. 2014… The 2015 Northeast racing season will jump right into high gear with the annual Selinsgrove Speedway Race of Champions Ice Breaker VIII on Saturday, March 14, this season. Once again the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour will be center stage with the Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman teams sharing the two division spotlight.

The Saturday-only format is a change for the annual Selinsgrove RoC Ice Breaker, which in the past has been a two-day show, on Friday night and Saturday. This year’s event will carry a raindate of Sunday, March 15.

"After conversations that Joe (Kaminski, Selinsgrove Race Director) and I had with Andrew (Harpell) of Race of Champions, we decided to move to a one day event," offered Selinsgrove Speedway promoter, Charlie Paige. "We will again plan a two division show of the Race of Champions Sportsman and Modified divisions. Hopefully we won't need it, but we will have the next day (Sunday) raindate available for the event. It has always been a great show for the fans to come to our track and I enjoy it as well."

The Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour will open their 2015 season in the $5000-to-win feature event which always draws a stellar field from the Northeast. Past Ice Breaker Modified winners have included Pennsylvanian Rick Laubach (2008), New Yorkers Danny Johnson (2009 and 2011) and Matt Sheppard (2010), and New Jersey’s Billy Pauch (2012). The weather came out on top the last two years by forcing the cancellation of the race and all are looking forward to snapping that trend.

Race of Champions Tour Director Andrew Harpell remarked,"We are extremely excited about the Ice Breaker at Selinsgrove Speedway.  The rich history of the facility combined with the modern updates that Charlie Paige has put into the property makes it one of the premier destinations for the Race of Champions Tour."

Reinforcing that comment, the RoC Dirt Sportsman competitors have been added to this year’s Ice Breaker making their first appearance at Selinsgrove Speedway. There should be a big field of the top northeast Sportsman teams in competition for the RoC Tour lid lifter on the big, one-half mile oval as the event should bring more participants from Pennsylvania and New Jersey to challenge for the $1200 first prize.

Last season the North, South and Overall RoC Sportsman titles were hotly contested with Claude Hutchings Jr. taking the North as well as the Overall Final Point Championships over Brad Walters while Walters won the South title over Hutchins. Butch Green and Randy Shantel provided strong competition for these two and filled the next spots in the final tallies.

"In announcing our 2015 show a few weeks ago, I got plenty of positive feedback already from the Modified and Sportsman teams looking to kick off the season at our big half-mile.  At the Parts Peddler show in Syracuse, I already confirmed many returning sponsors for the event and many more to be announced in the future.  Although it was a tough decision to drop the Friday night 358 show, I think in the long run it will be less of a burden on the teams financially, especially those that would be running in both the modified shows." Event promoter Joe Kaminski of JGK Motorsports and Selinsgrove Speedway Race Director continued, "We enjoy working with Andrew Harpell and his staff at RoC; it is a perfect fit for us at Selinsgrove and in years past we have had some great races with the Modifieds and I think the Sportsman will be a welcome addition to our "Icebreaker Weekend."

Returning sponsors for the 2015 Icebreaker include Lenny Krautheim Auto Sales, Middleburg, PA (former winning driver in both 358 and 410 sprint cars); Keith Sweigart Electric,  Reading, PA; Penske Racing Shocks, Reading, PA; GME Steering Products, New Ringgold, PA; Holiday Inn Express, Selinsgrove, PA; Blaise Alexander Family Dealerships; Insinger Performance, Dushore, PA; Reaction Graffix, New Buffalo, PA; Reid's Tannery, Skippack, PA; Selinsgrove (PA) Hotel (Official Icebreaker Party Headquarters) and JGK Motorsports, Mt. Carmel, PA

The Holiday Inn Express at 651 Susquehanna Trail in Selinsgrove is again the official hotel for the Icebreaker. Event rates are available by calling (570) 743-9275 by asking for Connie Buck, Manager.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE ----- RE: RoC Dirt Tour March

BUSY MARCH STARTS RACE OF CHAMPIONS ‘15 DIRT MODIFIED & SPORTSMAN TOURS. (SELINSGROVE ICE BREAKER EVENT TO BE ONE DAY SHOW ON SATURDAY, MARCH 14TH)

BINGHAMTON, NY… The Race of Champions Dirt Modified and Sportsman Tours will begin the 2015 racing season with a busy March schedule. The annual Ice Breaker event at Selinsgrove Speedway will be a one day show this year taking place on Saturday, March 14th. That event will feature both the RoC Dirt Modifieds and Sportsman for a Saturday afternoon double header. The full Race of Champions Dirt Series schedules are nearing completion and will be released in December.

After an amazing run of great weather during the first five years of the Ice Breaker at Selinsgrove the race was halted by bad weather in 2014. The previous year saw the Friday portion of the event completed with the Saturday program falling victim to snow. This year the event has been consolidated to one day for the RoC Dirt Modifieds and Sportsman on Saturday, March 14th. A rain date for Sunday, March 15th will be utilized as needed.

RoC Director Andrew Harpell commented, “After speaking with Selinsgrove Speedway track operator Charlie Paige we agreed that a one day show would be better for the event this year.” “With the uncertain weather that time of year night time racing can be miserable for both the teams and fans. We felt that a one day event in the afternoon will save teams and fans hotel costs and still provide us with a rain date if it is required on Sunday.”

Joe Kaminski oversees the promotion of the event for Selinsgrove Speedway and his efforts have turned this in to a race that fans and teams look forward to each season. The teams are certainly excited to return to the super fast Pennsylvania oval in March.

On Saturday, March 21st the annual “Cabin Fever” 60 for RoC Modifieds will take place at the New Eypgt Speedway (NJ). This opening day event for the speedway will also feature the RoC Sportsman in what is always a great event between the north and south teams. Last year track regular Ryan Godown bested a stellar field in the RoC Modified 60 and Grandview Speedway driver Joe Funk was the RoC Sportsman race winner.   Sunday, March 22nd is the rain date as needed.

The “60 Over” Special for RoC Modifieds will again close out the month of March at the Bridgeport Speedway. This race holds special meaning to fans and teams throughout the northeast as it honors the memory of Doug Hoffman. Last year the race was postponed due to poor weather and was held on Easter Sunday. Track regular Ryan Watt turned in a dominating performance in the event as he triumphed in the “60 Over” special. Stewart Friesen charged from deep in the field to finish second with Rocco Infante turning in a great performance for third.

Like last year the teams will be doing battle in early March as the point race begins for the 2015 RoC Dirt Modified Tour Championship. The 2014 Championship will still have to be decided on Sunday, April 12th at Five Mile Point Speedway for the held over 100 lap finale that was postponed due to poor weather. The championship battle ironically will once again be decided among current point leader Stewart Friesen and Matt Sheppard just as it was last season.
