Press Release

Interest high for informational meeting scheduled to organize the Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society

Formation of Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society is only ten days away

Easton PA, October 17, 2009     Since the announcement on August 23rd at the Hunterdon County 4-H fair that Bill Hanna, former official at the Flemington Speedway was organizing an informational meeting to create the “Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society”, interest has been gathering for this historic event.  Many former competitors, owners, officials, and fans of the famous former 5/8 mile square in Flemington, NJ have contacted Bill to express their support of this endeavor.

Tuesday October 27th at 7:30 PM, at the Spruce Run VFW Memorial Post located at 179 Main Street in Glen Gardner, NJ – a short distance north from the former speedway site is all set as the setting for this inaugural informational meeting to establish the “Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society”.  The purpose of this organization will be to “Preserve, Protect and Document the history of the Flemington Speedway and Fairgrounds”.

The Reading Fairgrounds Racing Historical Society, represented by Mike Shaub, have indicated their intention to be in attendance to answer questions in regards to the formation of the society whose ultimate goal is to build a permanent museum.  It will be an open forum meeting where all ideas are welcome as well as ideas already discussed among other supporters will be made public.  It is the hope that the weekly experience that simply was called “Flemington” can by preserved and enjoyed by future generations.  Up-to-date information can also be found on “Facebook” by searching Flemington Speedway Racing Historical Society.

If you plan to attend this first historic meeting, Bill is requesting to be contacted by e-mail at flemspdwyrhs@verizon.net, or indicating on the Facebook page or simply contacting by phone at 610-258-8248.
