RACING XTRAVANGZA READY TO TAKE CENTER STAGE
By Brad Vores for Racing Xtravaganza
Race fans have been counting down the days for winter to be history and ready for dirt to be flying around Central Pennsylvania.
But before we see dirt, the
annual Racing Xtravaganza presented by BAPS Auto Paints show is first up
and will take center stage this Saturday and Sunday, February 3-4 at
the Utz Arena at the York Expo Center.
Like in years past, Racing Xtravaganza will have a lot to offer all weekend long.
But perhaps the highlight of the 2018 show will be the BAPS Auto Paints $2K to win Cornhole Drivers Challenge.
The Cornhole Challenge will
feature 32 drivers that have signed up to compete for BAPS Auto Paints
sponsorship. Drivers will compete for $1K to win, however, can win $2K
if their race car is on display at the show.
“Each year we try to add new
elements to the show for the fans,” stated show owner Scott Gobrecht.
“We are really excited to have over 32 drivers competing in the BAPS
Auto Paints Cornhole Challenge. We feel this is a feature that will only
continue to grow.”
Another new feature to this
years show, will be Free RC Racing for fans. Fans can test their driving
skills on a radio-controlled racing system that provides exciting 1/18
scale stock car racing.
Back again this year will be
the always popular Hickory Falls Family Entertainment Center “Kids Zone”
where the future of the sport will be able to spend time entertaining
themselves during the show.
“There is no age limit to
being a race fan,” Gobrecht added. “That is why we try to have
something for kids, teens, parents, and of course our seniors. “Our hope
is for race fans of all ages to build strong relationships through the
sport of racing. Racing Xtravaganza is a great place to start making
those connections.”
Over 130 race vehicles will
be on display for fans to get an up close look and two of those vehicles
will be on display for the first time ever.
Two newly restored Weikert
Livestock Sprint Cars will be on display to bring some nostalgia to the
show, of course the cars formerly owned by one of the most decorated
sprint car owners in the history of the sport-Bob Weikert.
“The opportunity to showcase
not one, but two Weikert Livestock Cars came about through talks with
Ike Weikert late last year,” stated Gobrecht. “They worked hard to have
the cars ready and we feel extremely honored to have fans view these
cars at the show for the first time.”
Driver Meet and Greets and
the always popular Miss Racing Xtravaganza Pageant presented by
Bricker’s Famous French Fries will take place on the Viper Risk
Management Group Main Stage.
Kylie Glatfelter, Miss Racing Xtravaganza 2017 will pass on her crown to a new queen Saturday night to close the show.
Many drivers have signed up
for the Meet and Greets all weekend long including Michelle Devilbiss,
Joe Moss, Scott Dellinger, Kenny Edkin, Garrett Williamson, Ronnie
Grinestaff, Bobby Beard, Chase Billet, Austin Quick, Jim Randy, Brian
Carber, Brock Zearfoss, Gerard McIntyre, Jr., Adrian Shaffer, Kyle
Craker, Billy Nye and John Scarborough along with crew chiefs Scott
Zellers, Aaron Long and Jake Hinkle. There will also be a special Meet
and Greet with Walt Kline, the original founder of Racing Xtravaganza.
Numerous seminars during the
weekend are likely to be standing room only as years past and some of
the featured seminars in the Tom Rumsey, Inc. Seminar Room will be York
County Racing Club, Sponsorship for your Race Team, PASS/IMCA Sprints,
BAPS Motor Speedway, Tour Four Chapel Service, Track Safety and Making
Drag Racing Great Again and Eastern Museum of Motor Racing.
