$3600 STANDARD WINNER'S SHARE AT WILLIAMS GROVE
MECHANICSBURG, PA -- When Williams Grove Speedway opens its 2010
season on Friday evening, March 19, the sprint car drivers in the 410
division will be racing for a substantial increase to win the 25-lap
The standard winner's share this season will be $3600, a $600
increase from 2009.
The second place finisher will earn $2000, up $200 from last year.
Other positions have also been increased.
As competitive as the Grove's sprint car division has been in recent
years, it seems nearly every driver in the field has a legitimate shot
at the $3600 payoff.
During the past decade no less than 60 different drivers have won at
least one feature event in 410 competition at Williams Grove and in
recent years no driver has been able to dominate.
No driver has won more than five features in a single season since
Doug Esh won six times in 2006.
Since the turn of the century the Grove has averaged 16 different
winners per year.
In 2005 and again in 2008 twenty different drivers won sprint car
features in the 410 division with 19 different drivers recording a
victory in 2007.
None of the past ten seasons has produced fewer than 13 different
If the competition continues as expected, the increased winner's
share should benefit quite a few race teams this year.
The first two features of the season will be lined up according to
the luck of the draw before the speedway's handicapping system goes into
effect. At that time bonus money and lap money will again be offered
making it possible for feature winners to earn considerably more.
The 358 c.i. sprints will also be on the opening night card and the
first heat is scheduled to start at 7:30.
