The off-season of racing gives the racing families an opportunity to sit down and evaluate the next step they take in the racing wars or just sit back and take some time off to recharge their batteries for the start of the 2018 racing season that seemingly comes around pretty quickly. For talented young New York based racer Samantha Muller she has changed her priorities a bit after getting a taste of the full sized Sportsman division at the end of the 2017 season at Eastern States Weekend.
The fourteen year old driving diva will now focus her attentions to the rookie Sportsman division offered at the Accord Speedway. Samantha is no stranger to the racing at Accord as in back to back years in 2015 and 2016, Samantha earned two track championships, the first in the Junior Slingshot division and following up with a title in the All Star Slingshot division. In a short chat with Samantha by phone she remarked, "I am looking forward to kick-starting the season at Accord next year. I know I have a lot to learn about these Sportsman cars but my Dad and Mom have been very patient in allowing me to learn at my own pace as I step into the next phase of my racing." She further added, "I always enjoyed racing at Accord and winning two track titles there in the past has given me the confidence I need to go out and do the very job I am capable of doing. The rookie Sportsman at Accord will afford me the opportunity to learn quickly for at Accord one always has to be elbows up and throttle down."
For 2018 Samantha will take the controls of a Crate motored 2010 Bicknell race car. With her lone ride at OCFS, Samantha has learned things can change quickly as she was making her way through the field in one of the consolatio events untill getting turned into the fence by another competitior. Dad, Scott will crew chief the racer and be the mentor to teach Samantha the fine points of racing.
Samantha began racing at the age of nine in 2013 at the Little T Speedway in Thompson, Connecticut. She picked up some wins in both the Red Rookie followed by a move into the Blue Rookie. The following season found the family purchasing a Slingshot for racing in the Junior Slingshot division at the Accord Speedway. In her first season Samantha finished fourth in points. Samantha adapted quickly and the following year came back to capture the 2015 Junior Slingshot title at Accord and becoming the first lady to do so at Accord. Samantha moved up to the All Star Slingshots in 2016 and utilized an eight win season to capture the track title while also earning a top five in Empire Region points and a 21st place at Hamlin on a part time basis.
With the family moving into the full size racing divisions, the two cars in the Muller stable in the past are to be sold. One car has already been purchased by another strong Hamlin racer Emily Fleming, giving the Fleming team two cars to work with in 2018. The second car is for sale.
The All Star Slingshot division was dropped at Accord for the 2017 season and Samantha raced as a regular at Hamlin. She finished eighth in the final points, was eighth on the National Tour, was 12th in the MA Golld points and third in the MA Silver points. She also recorded a fifth on the Empire Tour and was eleventh in the Speedweeks All Star points.
Samantha has a dream of being professional racer in her racing endeavors but realizes there is some tough challenges already in front of her and that is and remains classroom first. She is in her Freshman year at Millbrook High School and has been a honor role student since the sixth grade. She enjoys Cross Country and Track, Lacrosse, Skiing, Ice Shating, Reading and Pottery.
Samantha Muller has set the bar high in her racing endeavors. She has shown she has what it takes to continue her transition to the next step in her racing career. Samantha will have her race car at the Quaker Steak & Lube sponsored Eleventh Annual Dirt Track Heroes Show from March 4th through the 10th in Phillpsburg, New Jersey and Samantha is looking forward to interviewing at the show and meeting new friends along the way.
She will follow up with the practice sessions at Accord when they are announced and be ready for the new season ahead.
