Honors, Awards  and Announcements were  on the agenda  December 6th at the Xcel Chassis Banquet with over 100 people in attendance.  As you walked in, you couldn't help but notice 5 full tables of door prizes along with 10 unique trophies. The door prizes were provided by Hoosier, Real Wheels, A-1 Racing Products and S&D Bodyline. Donnie Dana created a cartoon of each car and they were then mounted with plexiglass for a one of a kind memento.  Donnie is a magician with a brush and to see what he can create, check out his work on Facebook at Donnie Dana's Doodles.

After dinner was served it was time to get the party started. Doug Borger, series founder, proceeded to acknowledge the top five drivers from the weekly tracks with gift certificates. Speedways represented were Penn Can, Five Mile Point, Lindas and Shippensburg.  Aaron Bowes, Richie Hitzler, Michael Burrows and Jon Josko were given 3 wheels and a fuel jug for having perfect attendance in the tour division.  Most Improved Driver was earned by Shawna Schibilia with Jon Josko taking home Rookie of the Year honors.

The Geezer Sportsmanship award was presented to myself. Joe "Geezer"Fanelli , one of the biggest supporters of the Xcel Modifieds,  presents a rocking chair for the recipient  who goes above and beyond for the sport. I am truly honored and will enjoy my rocker over the winter months.

Thru out the year a championship  is formed  and on the final race of the year a champion emerges. Aaron Bowes faced adversity during the first portion of the season and by the end of the year was truly the man to beat.  Aaron has grown in the 600 modified ranks each year and is already making plans to defend his title for the 2015 season. Doug Borger presented a one of a kind trophy to Aaron along with a champion jacket and a certificate for a new frame and body. The body is sponsored by  long time supporter Don and Samantha of S&D Bodyline.

Doug Borger also made some major announcements for the 2015 season.  The Southern Tier racing just got a little hotter. I-88 Speedway will host the 600 modifieds on Friday nights and on Saturdays Thunder Mountain Speedway will have the mighty modifieds in the program. Doug explained the decision to move to these premier  Southern Tier tracks. "Each week the Xcel Chassis series has one of the bigger car counts at the tracks. It is in the best interest of the series  and my guys to move the weekly deal to these two tracks. As of right now I have 12 new cars on order and the majority is for that region. I expect to have more orders after the announcement was released so the off season will be a busy one for the shop.  This spring I will be having a seminar on set ups and what to do in different scenarios. The biggest key to having a stock division is policing the cars and keeping everything in check and I firmly believe that what keeps us growing. "

The 2015 schedule for the tour division and the weekly tracks will be released shortly. If you are looking for any information on the series, it can be found at www.xcelchassis.com
