Tim Sears Jr. Grabs First Fulton Speedway Modified Win Of 2015

By Dave Medler - FULTON, NY - August 15, 2015 - Coming into Saturday's racing, Tim Sears Jr. sat just outside the top-five in Modified points with three top-five finishes and ten top-ten finishes behind the wheel of his Mullen Industrial Handling Corp./No.83x.

In the 35-Lap Tracey Road Equipment Modified feature Sears would work the bottom of the speedway in the later stages, driving by Ryan Phelps with 5-Laps left and then went on to the popular win. For Sears it was his first win of 2015 and his fourth career Fulton Modified win.

Other winners on Billy Whittaker Cars & Trux $20-A-Car Load night were, Tyler Meeks (SUNY Canton Sportsman) Kevan Cook (NAPA Late Models) Shannon Pitcher (E&V Energy Novice Sportsman) Ray Bechler (Hiltonís Automotive Four-Cylinders).

Jim Witko Jr. and Chuck Bower lead the Tracey Road Equipment Modifieds down to the green that saw Witko grab the early advantage that lasted one lap before Chuck Bower took the top-spot in the 35-Lap feature.

On Lap-4 Ryan Phelps rim rode his way into the lead and opened a ten-car length advantage.

A quick yellow on Lap-6 for a spin by Tim Schneider Jr. would tighten the field up that would line up Phelps, Bower, Witko, Matt Fink, Jimmy Phelps and Tim Sears Jr. at the front for the restart.

With 10-Laps complete Phelps still set the pace out front. Fink, Sears, Bower, and Pat Ward used every inch of the speedway fighting for position.

Phelps, still running the top of the speedway, would hold about a fifteen car advantage on Lap-15 as Fink and Sears were in a tight fight for second and third and Larry Wight, Bower and Pat Ward raced for a top-five position.

With 11-Laps to go Sears would move into the runner-up spot and set his sights on Phelps.

As the top of the speedway appeared to be going away with groove getting higher, Tim Sears Jr. would start working on Phelps running the middle to the bottom as he started cutting into Phelps' lead. On Lap-30 Sears would drive by Phelps to be scored the new leader.

Over the final laps Sears would out-distance Ryan Phelps by 1.236 at the checkers. Larry Wight, Matt Fink and Jimmy Phelps finished third through fifth. Chad Phelps, Pat Ward, Billy Decker, Chuck Bower and Danny Johnson completed the top-ten.

Twenty-Five SUNY Canton Sportsman took the green for the 25-Lap feature that saw Brett Draper take the lead for the opening lap before Tyler Meeks bolted into the lead one lap later to set the early pace.

On Lap-4 Josh Blackwell made hard contact with two yuke tires inside of turns one and two as Mike Stanton Jr. made hard contact with the back straight wall. Both cars were towed to the pits.

When the green came back out, Dylan Zacharias looped it in three and four collecting Nick Krause who sustained heavy damage, ending his night.

At Lap-10 Meeks had over a two-second lead as Steve Abt, Joe Kline, Wade Chrisman and Draper battled in the top-five.

With 10-Laps to go Meeks was a straightaway ahead of the field. Abt ran alone in second while Chrisman and Kline were in a tight fight for third and fourth and Draper a distant fifth.

Over the final laps and no yellows to tighten the field up Meeks cruised to his second win of the season. Steve Abt, Wade Chrisman, Joe Kline and Will Shields finished second through fifth.

Will Shields, in the post-race weigh-in, was light going over the scales.

Kevan Cook set the early pace in the 20-Lap NAPA Late Model feature with Chris Fleming all over his back bumper as they separated themselves from the rest of the field.

With 10-Laps complete Cook and Fleming ran bumper to bumper and side by side a straightaway ahead of the battle for third through fifth between Jason Occhino, Alan Fink and Dave Talbot.

On Lap-11 Bill Eisele made contact with Harry Halliday exiting turn-four shooting Halliday hard into the wall causing heavy damage to the front and the rear of the Halliday car.

After a quick yellow on Lap-13 it was a shoot-out to the finish. Fleming tried everything he could to get by Cook on the bottom of the speedway. Cook used the momentum on the high side for the narrow victory, his third in his rookie season in the division . Alan Fink, Sean Beardsley and Dave Talbot finished third through fifth.

In the 15-Lap E&V Energy Novice Sportsman feature Rich Riggs lead the first 12-Laps until he slid up the turn-two banking, allowing Shannon Pitcher to drive into the lead. Once out front Pitcher drove away for the win. Rich Riggs, Zach Sobotka, Ryan Hatherill and Kelly Smith finished second through fifth.

Colby Herzog took the lead on the opening lap of the 15-Lap Hiltonís Automotive Four-Cylinder feature until Lap-6 when Ray and Dakota Bechler would take over the lead and second place. Ray Bechler would have to hold off a furious charge from Jacobe Palmiter to win by a half-a-car length. Dakota Bechler, Chris Bonoffski and Wendall Washington finished third through fifth.
