NATIONAL QUARTER MILE DIRT TRACK CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND THIS FRIDAY AND SATURDAY AT FIVE MILE POINT SPEEDWAY. SPORTSMAN TEAMS HAVE OPPORTUNITY FOR HUGE WEEKEND.
KIRKWOOD, NY The 65th consecutive racing season at Five Mile Point Speedway will come to a close this weekend with the 46th Annual National Quarter Mile Dirt Track Championship Weekend at the speedway. Racing will take place on both Friday and Saturday with kids 12 and younger being admitted FREE both days. Racing on Friday begins at 6:45 p.m. with racing set for 3:15 p.m. on Saturday.
The Sportsman teams that will converge on Five Mile Point Speedway have the opportunity to really cash in over the two days. On Friday, the Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Tour will run a 40 lap feature event that will pay an impressive $2,555 to win and $200 to take the green. The Open vs. Crate Sportsman format has worked tremendously during the season at the quarter mile oval and again on Friday a number of Crate bonuses have been posted within the 40 lap main event.
The top five finishing crate Sportsman across the line in the Friday night RoC Sportsman 40 will earn the following bonuses: 1st ($125), 2nd ($100), 3rd ($75), 4th ($50), 5th ($25). In addition the top finishing Crate Sportsman across the line will be a guaranteed starter for the Saturday $1,000 to win GRIT Crate Sportsman finale.
Every Sportsman team that competes on Friday will also have an extra incentive to compete in the Southern Tier RoC Modified 65 on Saturday. That race pays $5,555 to win along with an outstanding $500 to take the green. The Sportsman teams from Friday night will see their entry waived if they try to qualify for the Modified 65 and the top finisher will receive a $100 bonus.
Last year 4 Crate Sportsman teams qualified for the Modified Southern Tier 100 event and placed well. The Open Sportsman and Crate Sportsman teams are very competitive on the quarter mile oval with the Modifieds and it always makes for a very interesting mix of drivers from all over the northeast. Sportsman cars have always done very well against the Modifieds at Five Mile Point Speedway over the years and if a Sportsman team could actually win the Saturday 65 lapper they could go home with close to $9,000 with a weekend sweep.
The two days of racing at the popular quarter mile oval takes place this Friday and Saturday. The last event at the speedway on October 10th saw teams from CT, MA, NJ, NY, PA and VT joining several teams from Canada as just under 200 race teams converged on the facility. Once again teams and fans will be traveling in to the area from all over the northeast for the season finale. Over $100,000 in prize money will be up for grabs over the two days.
The two-day racing program will feature all of the most popular division in racing: the Race of Champions Dirt Modified Tour, Race of Champions Dirt Sportsman Tour, 305 Sprint Car Nationals, Race of Champions Dirt Street Stocks, Empire State IMCA Modified Tour, GRIT Series Crate Sportsman Championship, 4 Cylinders, Factory Stocks and Slingshots.
