BRAWL IN THE FALL RESET FOR SEPTEMBER 29
Of course, that will depend on the weather that has resulted in this last season Hagerstown Speedway final event being the race that could not be completed or otherwise known by some as the Rain Date Race.
Following the loss from Hurricane/Superstorm Sandy last October, the 2103 speedway schedule was arranged with the Brawl as the opening event on Sunday, March 17, not to interfere with competition elsewhere for any of the four divisions and the following Sunday as a rain date, also not to interfere with other facilities.
Well, as we found out, Hagerstown Speedway cannot control the weather and can only evaluate the forecasts given by the experts, which sometimes do in fact turn out to be slightly incorrect.
Both weekends did incur continuing wintery weather that also affected other area tracks as well as Hagerstown’s third postponement. The speedway’s main concern was that of running the event when fans were not forced to sit nor drivers subject to competing in near freezing temperatures, besides incurred problems with engines while performing in those kinds of temperatures.
Hagerstown has incurred much expense in track preparation, advertising and various other costs for these lost programs and still had plans on completing the event following the March 24th loss.
Suggestions were solicited from fans/drivers/owners following that program and have been reviewed by track officials. We hoped to find a suitable Sunday date that would not interfere with any other facility’s program for any of the divisions; late models, 410 and 358 sprints or big block modifieds.
Schedules from every possible facility in the northeast running these divisions have been reviewed only to find a few in competition Saturday evening, September 28th, but nothing for Sunday.
Plans are to complete the program as quickly as possible on Sunday and allow all to get on their way home. There will be a 2 p.m. limited warm-up time followed by the big block modifieds and then 358 sprint last chance qualifiers. The features will then proceed with the Late Models (50 laps), 410 Sprints (30 laps), Big Blocks (50 laps) and 358 Sprints (30 Laps).
For those who were not in attendance already and don’t have a rain check, here’s a way to save money towards your ticket:
