HAGERSTOWN IS READY FOR JUNE WITH NUMEROUS SPECIALS

Hagerstown, MD:  Another month has gone by the wayside at Hagerstown Speedway as June arrives with specials on each of the five weekends.

The month kicks off Saturday June 1 with night two of the Appalachian Mountain Dirt Late Model Speedweek presented by Harbaugh Amusement Machine as the Buchanan Auto Stores late models take to the track in the open $5,000 to win event. Jamie Lathroum is the defending event winner. The Ernie D’s pure stocks will be in competition twice, first with a PS Special and also with their rained out event from May 18th.

Advancing a week to June 9th, it will be Mayberry Night with Scott Epperson, the nationally renowned Barney Fife look alike and impersonator of America’s bumbling deputy sheriff from Mayberry on hand for fun and entertainment.

Racing includes the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic late model sportsman in a regular feature. Additionally, with the May 18th 31-lap Bill Bowman Special rained out after only seven laps, that event will resume with Scott Palmer leading the field for the final 24 laps with Wayne Walls Jr. taking top honors in last year’s event.  The Ernie D’s pure stocks and D & D Auto Recycling Hobby stocks are on tap with the hobby stocks in a special event with time trials.

The late model sportsman division returns June 15th for another premier event, the $1,000 to win Hoosier Daddy and Race for Breast Cancer Awareness Night which will add another $1,000 and  totaling a big $2,000 to win, compliments of the hard work of Tyler Horst, a young driver in the division. The sportsman will run topless with time trials to set the qualifying order. Joey Leavell was last year’s winner. The pure stocks and hobby stocks are also in competition.

With a switch to Friday June 21, the Hoosier Tire Mid Atlantic Winchester/Hagerstown 35-lap Shootout combines with Law Enforcement Appreciation Night and any enforcement officer getting free general admission with proper identification. On tap for the evening will be the Buchanan Auto Stores Late Model Championship Series along with the second appearance of the RUSH Crate late models in a 30-lap event.  Starting time is moved ahead a half hour to 7:30 p.m.

Saturday June 8th starting at 9:00 a.m., it’s the Dukes Family Festival in Hazzardtown, Md, (Hagerstown). Members from the original cast of the Dukes of Hazzard TV show appearing in person will include: Cooter (Ben Jones), Cletus (Rich Hurst), Rosco (James Best), Daisy (Catherine Bach) and Enos (Sonny Shroyer).

Various activities such a stunt demonstration, music from different bands, quarter midget racing, car shows, etc. will be going on all day. Check the speedway website for additional information on this special event.

The month ends with one of the all-time prestigious events for the late models, the 48th Annual Johnny Roberts Memorial 35-lap event which will be under the Three State Flyers banner. Gary Stuhler was last year’s winner, taking the event win for the seventh time and his overall 130th time at Hagerstown.

Racing also includes the late model sportsman, pure stocks, hobby stocks and the Classic Racing Series. It’s also Old Timers Night, a night to honor all former retired racers along with a Special Stunt performed during the evening.
