WEATHER FORCES HAGERSTOWN TO CANCEL SCHETROMPF LUCAS EVENT

Hagerstown, MD: After “showers” showed on Friday’s forecast all week, the mass showing on today’s radar continued creeping eastward until the end was inevitable.

Rain has already begun and potential thunderstorms will continue into the evening forcing Hagerstown Speedway/Dirt Capitol LLC to cancel the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series sanctioned 33rd Annual Stanley Schetrompf Founders Day Classic.

There is NO rain date scheduled for the event. Additionally, neither Dirt Capitol nor Lucas had an acceptable date to reschedule.

This long time premier event has ran from 1982 but in the past five years, this is the third rain out, including 2010 and 2012.

Gary Stuhler is the leading winner of the event, having won six times while Rodney Franklin with three and Donnie Moran with two are the only other drivers that have repeated wins in the event. Three time and Lucas defending champion Jimmy Owens won for the first ever time at Hagerstown in last year’s event.

The $10,000 to win event was night one of a two night series with Roaring Knob Motorsports Complex which will run tomorrow (Saturday) evening.

The speedway returns to action next Saturday, May 3rd with Late Models, Late Model Sportsman Spring Championship (with double points) along with the Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Four Cylinders.  Starting time is 7:00 p.m.

Follow the speedway on Twitter and Facebook at Dirt Capitol LLC. The latest news, results, photos, schedule or rule changes can found be on the speedway’s website: www.hagerstownspeedway.com.  Also check the website for any changes in weather conditions that may delay or cancel the program or contact the speedway office at 301-582-0640.
