HAGERSTOWN, MD: Hagerstown Speedway is rained out, well sort of. Following at least four inches of rain in the Hagerstown area on Friday and all around the northeast, the Conococheague Creek adjacent to the speedway, which supplies the water to wet the track weekly, swelled from the higher waters from creeks and streams that feed into it, and today, supplied just a little too much.

Efforts to pump the water the water from the third and fourth turn area where the worst flooding area is has been unsuccessful and Dirt Capital LLC has been forced to cancel tonight's racing.

At 3 p.m., the amount of standing water remaining in the pit area was still too much to overcome and attempt to proceed with tonight's race program. Photos showing the flooding issue are on the speedway’s website.

Hopefully and with weather again permitting, the Dirt Capitol will return with a three-day Memorial Day Weekend event beginning Friday

The Ernie Jones 22 for Late Models with $2200 to win highlights Friday’s program with double points. Jones, a former racer and brother of Dirt Capitol LLC co-promoter Rick Jones, lost a long battle to cancer in February 2012. The Super Sportsman open wheeled racers also will compete that evening along with the Hobby Stocks and Rookie Cars.

Night two on Saturday, $3,000 goes to the winner in the Late Models in the Hagerstown/Roaring Knob Challenge @Hagerstown (Show up Points). Late Model Sportsman, Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks and Four Cylinders also are on the program and winners of these support divisions are guaranteed a starting spot in Sunday’s features.

Sunday, the 25th will showcase the Late Model Sportsman in the Malloy Ford $1,000 to win event.  Pure Stocks, Hobby Stocks, Four Cylinders and Rookie Cars are also competing. Veterans will receive half off the $10 general admission.
