SELINSGROVE, PA - March 9, 2014 ---- Selinsgrove Speedway is on schedule to open the 2014 northeast outdoor racing season this weekend with Race of Champions action on Friday evening, March 14, for the small block modifieds and the RoC Big Block Modifieds and Sportsman on Saturday afternoon and early evening,, March 15. The event is the seventh annual Race of Champions season opener.
Selinsgrove Speedway operator and weekly racing promoter Charlie Page and Icebreaker event promoter Joe Kaminski have moved the outlook for racing from a 'wait and see" position to an 'all go' status, giving racers and fans their first serious racing of the year in the .
"Charlie told me last week that all looked good last week but Friday he shared that 80% of the snow on the grounds was removed or had melted and that the track was ready to take equipment for preparation on Monday," shared Kaminski this past weekend at the Gater News Motorsports Expo in Syracuse, NY. "The food has been ordered for the concession stands and barring a substantial rain or snow storm this week we will be racing this weekend."
On Friday evening the Race of Champions Dirt Small Block Modifieds will do battle in a 25 lap event paying a minimum of $2,500 to win sponsored by Insinger Performance Products. There will also be practice for the RoC Big Block Modified teams along with the RoC Sportsman teams that will be in action on Saturday.
"We are very proud to be sponsoring this event once again," shared Bruce Insinger, "Insinger Racing Fuels has been involved at the Selinsgrove for over 12 years now and has supported the RoC Icebreaker since it started at Selinsgrove. It is a great fit because we also provide fuel to most of the racers' involved in this event at their home speedways throughout the season as well so this is a chance for us to give back."
Friday night race winner there will be an extra incentive on the
line. Should the Friday night Modified winner go on to win the Saturday
RoC Big Block event they would earn a $1,000 bonus. The Saturday 40 lap
event pays $5,000 to the race winner. This would bring the weekend tally
to over $8,500 for only 65 laps of feature racing. The $1,000 bonus is
once again being provided by an anonymous Selinsgrove Speedway race fan.
The Econo Lodge Inn and Suites of Shamokin Dam, located at 3249 North Susquehanna Trail on Routes 11 & 15, three miles North of the Selinsgrove Speedway, is once again the official host of the "Icebreaker Weekend" at the Selinsgrove Speedway, March 14-15. Sharon Wolfe, General Manager of the Econo Lodge is offering special racing weekend rates for the competitors and fans alike.
