Flach Holds Off Hearn for Fifth Career Modified Win
by Phil Allaway

West Lebanon, NY: Much of Saturday night's schedule was compacted due to potential rain. Luckily, the rain never actually came to Lebanon Valley before the races were completed for the night.

In the Modifieds, Rich Salisbury's car was finally ready to rumble. After winning his heat race, Salisbury started from pole and was able to maintain the lead early on.
After an early caution, Wayne Jelley's car suddenly quit in turn 4. Jeff Rockefeller ended up spinning to avoid Jelley, bringing out a yellow in the process. Jelley was eventually able to restart, but additional issues ended his night
Immediately after that incident, Kyle Hoffman spun in turn 2 after diving for a hole that closed. The resulting crash involved half a dozen cars either directly, or in the aftermath. Everyone involved was ok.
On the restart, Flach pounced on Salisbury and took the lead. From there, Flach slowly pulled away from the field. Behind Flach, Matt Pupello took second from Salisbury, but couldn't quite keep up with Flach. Meanwhile, Brett Hearn once again came up through the pack from his 14th starting spot and moved up to fourth by lap 12. Further progress would have been unlikely before J.R. Heffner slowed on lap 15 to brings out the fourth caution.

Hearn then went on a run, taking third from Kyle Armstrong on the restart, then moving past Pupello for second a couple of laps later. A Tyler Chartrand spin set up a green-white-checker, but Flach was able to hold off Hearn to take the Modified win.
Flach was very happy with his evening afterwards.

"We had a little bit of a handful on the bottom at the beginning when we were trying to race [Rich] Salisbury," Flach said afterwards. ".Overall, we had a good car. Starting up front helps...we were able to capitalize on it."
In the Small Block Modifieds, Demetrios Drellos parlayed heat race glory into the pole for the feature. From that pole position, Drellos pulled away. Behind Drellos, Jelley and fellow rookie Timothy Davis gave chase.
The first and only yellow flew on lap 5 when Kim LaVoy and Jeff Kelley had contact in turn 2. The resulting incident wrapped up Kenny Aanonsen, Jr. and Chad Pierce
After the restart, Drellos came under pressure for the lead from Jelley, but the young rookie did not yield. The two drivers battled for nearly ten laps before Jelley was finally able to get past on lap 15. From there, Jelley pulled away to take his first Small Block Modified win of the year.

The Sportsman drivers competed in the Andrew Sherman Memorial. $2,000 was up for grabs. Young Ricky Davis clearly wanted that money badly. He led early on from the pole in what was one of the best runs of his career. Meanwhile, John Virgilio was mired back in 12th starting spot, but not for long.
On lap 3, Nikki Ouelette spun in turn 2 after contact from Brandon Lane to bring out a yellow. By that point, Virgilio had already moved up to fourth. After another restart, Brandon Lane collided with Cody Ochs in turn 1, putting both drivers in the wall. The crash also collected Ryan Heath and John Miller. All drivers were ok, but they were done for the night.

After the restart, Virgilio put the pressure on Ricky Davis for the lead. What followed were eight laps of side-by-side action in which the two drivers raced each other cleanly before Virgilio was able to get a run exiting turn 2 and pull ahead. From there, Virgilio pulled away to take his second Sportsman in a row.

In Pro Stock, Rick Duzlak started from pole, but immediately lost his advantage to Chuck Towslee. Towslee was able to hold his advantage through an early restart without too many problems.
Lap 7 saw another incident in turn 3 that involved Paul Rogers, Tom O'Connor, Tom Harkins and others. At the same time, Paul LaRochelle pulled off and retired for the evening.
After the restart, Towslee was involved in a brisk battle for the lead with Frank Twing and Jay Corbin. Towslee was leading on lap 12 when he jumped the cushion in turn 4. The resulting stack up allowed Corbin to move up from third to first. From there, Corbin pulled away to take his second win of the year.

In Pure Stock, Phil Sherman, Jay Casey and Mike Eichstedt each picked up victories. There was no Crate Street Stock feature.
