Christmas, Heroes, Fireworks and More at Mercer Raceway Park

Mercer, PA (July 22, 2015):  There will be something for fans of all ages at Mercer Raceway Park on Saturday, July 25. And, there will be a little extra for the racers, too. Because of the high number of postponements due to rain, there will be three, yes, three separate promotions along with the full card of Saturday Night Live! racing action.

First up will be the Christmas in July celebration. Children will get toys and other gifts when they enter the speedway grounds. The generosity will continue to the racers in every class, as lap money has been accumulated through sponsors.  Some of the money will go to the leaders of the features, of course, but the rest will be spread out to other competitors, depending on the donor's wishes.

During intermission, the races will assemble on the front stretch, and all fans will be invited to join them for a meet and greet. It will be a perfect time to get autographs and photo opportunities. Or, if you just want to shake hands and wish your favorite drivers well before they head into battle, you will get that chance. Many of the racers will have picture cards or candy to pass out during this interlude. This Meet your Heroes session is made possible by Herr's, the official snack food of Mercer Raceway Park.

Then, later in the evening, the skies above Mercer Raceway Park will explode with flashes of color the sounds of thunder. The fireworks  display is provided by Pizza Joe's, the official pizza supplier at the track.

And, don't forget the racing. The Midseason Championships were completed last weekend, and four of the six points leaders used the double points to solidify their positions in the title chases.

One of the leaders to capitalize was Brandon Matus, who romped to the win in the 4 Your Car and World of Wheels 410 Sprints. He entered the event with just a one point margin over Eric Williams, and now he leads by 27 markers. Jack Sodeman, Jr. and Adam Kekich remain third and fourth, but, now, they are further behind the leader. Scott Priester climbed into the fifth spot with his run on Midseason Championship night. But, none of these drivers are ready to concede the championship to Matus, as there still is plenty of racing left to go in 2015.

Likewise, Jimmy Holden triumphed in the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds. He now has a 75 point advantage over Lonnie Riggs. Riggs and Kyle Fink jumped ahead of J.R. McGinley as a result of last week's action. Tommy Kristyak holds down the fifth spot.

Mark Marcucci now has a commanding lead of 122 points over Shane Webb in the Rock Concrete Supply Modified Lites by virtue of his success. Mike Thompson is 75 points ahead of Steve Longwell, Sr. in the Eperthener's Auto Wrecking and Ray's Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks. These racers, and others, will challenge for the wins.

Cody Bova was one of the lucky racers who took charge of the season's rankings after going to victory lane. He leads Goerge Hobaugh, Jr. in the Bonnell's Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. The win was a special one for Bova, as it was also American Cancer Society Race for a Cure Night, and he did his mother proud by taking the top spot. Sherri Bova is an eleven year survivor of breast cancer.

Curtis J. Bish was not as fortunate. His win in the Precise Racing Products Stock Cars moved him to fourth spot, just seven counters away from Pat Fielding. Two-time winner Ryan Moyer still leads the way. Gary Miller, Jr. rides along in second.

All of this fun and excitement will be yours for regular ticket prices! That means adults can enter for just $13, seniors (60+) for $11, and students (9-15) for $5. Children (8 and under) will be free, as always. The Family Pass will be offered for $28, and that will benefit mom, dad, and up to four minors of any age. Pit Passes will be $30.

The gates will swing open for spectators at 5 p.m, while the race teams will get access to the Pits an hour earlier. Practice will commence at 6:30, and heat race action will begin at 7 p.m.

If you cannot make it to the track for this blockbuster, August 1 will feature Bicycle races for the younger set, courtesy of Ray's Racing Collectibles and Approved Toilet Rentals. All participants must have a helmet. The older racers will go in a Saturday Night Live! program.
