Modifieds Galore at Mercer Raceway Park

Mercer, PA (August 11, 2015):  The Big Blocks are coming! The Big Blocks are coming!

That's right, on Saturday, August 15, the ground pounding Big Blocks of the BRP Modified Tour will be coming to Mercer Raceway Park to challenge the Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds on their home turf. It will be Smackdown! as the stars of the Modified world go head to head for bragging rights.

Erick Rudolph has a pair of wins with the touring Big Block Mods in 2015, including one score worth $5,000. Single victories have gone to Dave Murdick and Rex King King, Jr. Cooter's victory was also worth a cool $5,000. Rex King, Sr. is still searching for his first win of the season with the Modified Tour, but he leads the points due to his consistent finishes. His son rides in second, with Rich Rickner and Dave Murdick close behind. Other top drivers in the series include Kevin Bolland, back on the local speedpaths after an extended layoff, Garrett Krummert, Jim Rasey, Eric Gabany, and Brad Rapp. The Mod Tour has been drawing great car counts and providing exciting competition at all of the events. This one should be no different.

The Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds boast plenty of talented drivers as well. Jimmy Holden leads the point standings, but this will be a non-points event for Mercer's own Mod squad. Lonny Riggs has proven his mettle against the Big Blocks, with two wins under his belt, one coming at the Park! Kyle Fink, Tommy Kristyak, J.R. McGinley, Sid Unverzagt, Brian Schaffer, Jeff Schaffer, Jr., Rich Whitney, Kyle Holden, and Kevin Green are some of the others who will try to defend the home turf.

This will be a knock-down, drag-out, no hold barred fight to the finish! Come early, and get your favorite seats.

Joining the Modifieds in action will be The Bonnell's Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors, the Rock Concrete Modified Lites, and the Eperthener's Auto Wrecking/Ray's Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks. These divisions will be racing for points. With the final night of points just weeks away, these racers will be going hard for every position.

George Hobaugh, Jr. holds just a narrow eleven point lead over Cody Bova in the Bonnell's Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors. While that division seems to have become a two horse race for the championship, the other drivers will be gunning for the gold and the glory nonetheless. Meanwhile, Mark Marcucci  and Michael Thompson have distinguished themselves in the Rock Concrete Supply Modified Lites and the Eperthener's Auto Wrecking/Ray's Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks.

And, there is more! The PA Vintage Modifieds will also be in action. These old-style Mods will bring back many fond memories for the older fans and they will give the younger generation a glimpse of what racing was like back in the day. This won't be a parade, either! The Vintage Mods will race just as hard as the newer models.

Please remember that there will be no Precise Racing Products Stock Cars this Saturday.

The spectator gates will open at 5 p.m. Racers can enter the pits an hour earlier. Practice will start at 6:30, with heat races at 7:00.

Ticket prices for the Modified special will be as follows:  adults $15, seniors (60+) $13, and students (9-15) $7. The children (ages 8 and under) will be admitted for free, as always. The Family Pass will be good for mom and dad, and up to four minors of any age, and that will cost just $32. Pit Passes will be $30.

And, keep next Saturday open on your racing calendar. The Auto Racers for Kids Charity race will be presented by Bonnell's Rod Shop. All proceeds from that event will benefit children and youth programs in the northwestern PA area.
