Little Guys Nationals Returns to Mercer Raceway Park
Mercer, PA (September 23, 2015): The final weekend of action on the tricky one-third mile oval at Mercer Raceway Park will feature the 16th Annual Little Guys Nationals. Complete racing programs will be conducted on Friday and Saturday, September 25 and 26. The event will pay tribute to the support divisions that make up the backbone of the Saturday Night Live! contests. And, there will be extra divisions added to make these extra special.
The Approved Toilet Rentals 358 Modifieds will have center stage and a banner field is expected. Track champion Jimmy Holden will lead the way, but his tough competitors, like Lonnie Riggs, J.R. McGinley, Tommy Kristyak, Kyle Fink, and many more, will be on hand. Former track champion Rob Curtis has submitted his entry form, and several New York invaders are expected. Among them will be Shayne Pierce and Ron Cartwright, Jr., both of whom have turned in impressive performances in prior editions of the Little Guys Nationals. Former Little Guys Nationals victor Randy Chrysler may be teamed up with sensational Erick Rudolph for this one. This will be the one for all the marbles. You don't want to miss it!
The Bonnell's Rod Shop Outlaw Sprint Warriors will again be part of the fun. Michael Bauer and Jimmy Morris will not be in the mix, both having graduated to the track's 410 Sprint Car class, but there is a bunch of fresh new faces who want to stake their claims to a share of the glory. Racers like Cody Bova, Darin Gallagher, and George Englert moved up from the Modified Lites, and Alex Paden came up from the Mini Stocks. Throw in fellows like George Hobaugh, Jr., Mike Marano, II, Devin Litwiler, Darren Pipher, and Mark and Ken Rossey, and you have the makings of a fantastic show. Veteran Andy Priest recently came back to the division in a Ted Hull machine, so don't count him out. And, what about the ringers? 410 standouts like Brandon Matus, Adam Kekich, and Brandon Spithaler have all taken turns behind the wheels of Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Will they get the nods to strap in for the Little Guys Nationals?
The Precise Racing Products Stock Cars will compete under the Open Stock rules, so divisional champion Ryan Moyer will have his hands full. Curtis J. Bish, Tim Burns, Pat Fielding another regulars may have to fight off the challenges of outsiders like Brent Johnson, Rusty Martz, Bob Schwartzmiller, and Chris Schneider. And, trusty Rusty Moore, the owner of multiple Mercer titles in this class, is expected back for this one!
Mark Marcucci will try to continue his domination of the Rock Concrete Modified Lites, but competition will come from Jacob Bova and a host of others. Several drivers from north of the border will try to take the loot back to Canada, eh.
Can Michael Thompson match Marcucci's pace? Since jumping into one of the Grossman's Garage Mini Stocks, he has been nearly unbeatable. But, former champ Mike McConnell is now his teammate, and trooper Tim Callahan is back in the fold after a brief stint in the Outlaw Sprint Warriors. Popular veterans like Rudy Troples, Ed Haylett will join the Longwell trio-Steve Sr., Jr., and Karlee-and newcomer Isaac Paden to make the Eperthener's Auto Wrecking and Ray's Racing Collectibles Mini Stocks an exciting part of the program.
But, wait, there's more! The Micro Sprints will make their only appearances at the Park this weekend, and a flock of them are expected to enter the fray. The growing Econo Mod division will also be on hand, and over a dozen drivers have already submitted their entries. And, making their first ever start at the track will be the Junior Sprints. Come watch the next generation take to the historic Mercer Raceway Park.
