FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

AUTOGRAPH NIGHT JOINS REGULAR FOUR DIVISION SHOW THIS SUNDAY AT UTICA-ROME SPEEDWAY

VERNON, NY-This Sunday, August 23, it will be yet another exciting round of NASCAR Whelen All-American Series racing at the Utica-Rome Speedway presented by Excell Motorsports and Mirabito Fuel Group.  The Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds, 602 Sportsman, Open Sportsman, and Pro Street Stocks will all be action plus it will be the fan favorite Autograph Night.

With the Super DIRTcar Series competing this Sunday, several of the top drivers will not be in attendance so this week will be an open draw for heats as teams enter the pits and a feature redraw.  Full NASCAR points (National and State)will be awarded to those who compete at Utica-Rome Speedway this Sunday, while 25 track points will be awarded to drivers who are at either Cornwall competing or at Utica-Rome Speedway Sunday.  A full purse will be paid with $2,000 going to the winner and at least $150 to start.  For those who purchased a temporary license this past Sunday, you still have August 31 to use the license.  This is a great chance for non-regulars to come in and compete without being penalized with the weekly handicap system.

In the 602 Sportsman, Rocky Warner has a division leading seven wins but still holds just an 11 point advantage over second place point man Matt Janczuk, who has two wins overall.  Janczuk’s consistency has helped him keep pace with Warner and pull away from third place driver AJ Filbeck who also has two wins on the season.  Fourth and fifth place point drivers, Cody Clark and Alan Fink both have one victory each as well.  Connor Cleveland and Eric Giguere have also found victory lane this season.  In the latest NASCAR Whelen All-American Series Division II National Standings (through August 12), Janczuk was ranked seventh overall with Warner in 13th.  Filbeck (30th) and Clark (32nd) were also ranked in the top 50.

After using the night off to compete in the Stampede Steakhouse Modifieds this past Sunday, Steve Way and Claude Hutchings Jr. will resume their battle for the Open Sportsman championship.  Going into the night tied atop the standings, one of them will look to take over the top spot and hope to carry through to the title.  Defending division champion Jeremy Vunk sits in third with Heath Carney and Jack Miller round out the top five.  Hutchings has a division leading five wins followed by Vunk with three, Way and Carney with two wins, and Randy Shantel has one victory.

Another tight battle to the finish is shaping up in the Pro Street Stock ranks as point leader Mike Welch holds a narrow nine point margin over Glenn Forward.  Mark Effner remains within striking distance in third while Chris Carr and AJ Digsby round out the top five in the points.  Division IV NWAAS National standings (through August 12) show Welch in sixth with Forward one spot back in seventh.  Effner (14th), Carr (33rd), and Digsby (42nd) also are ranked in the top 50 nationally.

Weather permitting, the cars and drivers in competition will be brought out on to the front stretch of the spacious speedway and fans will be allowed to join them on the track for an autograph session during intermission.  This will give fans an up close and personal look at their favorite cars and drivers and give them a chance to meet them.

Gates will open this Sunday at 3:30 p.m. with racing getting underway at 6 p.m.  General admission is at $13 for adults with kids 16 and under admitted for free.
