FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:
Sommey Lacey sweeps Victory Lap Late Model action at Virginia Motor Speedway; Jamerson, Galloway and Adkins also get wins
The night started with Lacey setting a new division track record with a lap of 18.340 seconds in hot lap time trials. He then inverted the top four putting Tom Cohick and Matt Morgan on the front row for the start of the 35 lap feature.
At the drop of the green Morgan and Cohick led the field into turn 1 with Morgan taking control on the high side out of turn 2. Morgan began to pull away as second through seventh battled for position. By lap 10 Morgan had a full straight on rookie Tim Shelton and the rest of the field and looked to be invincible.
On lap 21 while working traffic Morgan jumped the cushion allowing
“I didn’t think I had enough car to get the win tonight, but I kept telling myself to keep pushing and the lapped traffic help me close the gap. Whenever you get a win here you worked for it,” commented Lacey in victory lane.
Rounding out the top five were Tim Shelton, Stevie Long, Ed Pope and Scott Adams. Tim Shelton picked up the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race Award with the second place finish.
In other action Brandon Galloway took the lead on lap 18 of the Budweiser Modified feature and then cruised to the win. In the Truckin Thunder Sportsman Roger Jamerson of Mechanicsville, VA led flag to flag to pick up the victory and in the Collision One Limited Stock Car feature Brett Adkins of Gloucester, VA battled James Givens for eleven laps before taking the lead and going on to the victory.

On lap 20 the battle for fifth heated up as Todd Traylor, Otey and Woods wrestled for the spot. Woods would get by Otey in turn 3 to take fifth. Over the next several laps Woods would muscle his way inside Traylor as the two battle for fourth. Jamerson would cruise to the win as Traylor and Woods battled side by side. The two drivers would get together in turn 4 coming to the checkers with neither driver making it to the line. Following Jamerson to the checkers were Michael Roop, J.R. Guy, Shawn Otey and Davey Pullen. Bubba Holloway would pick up the Pitts Lumber Rookie of the Race with his ninth place finish.
In the Collision One Limited Stock 20 lap feature James Givens and Wayne Carroll led the field to green with Givens taking control to lead lap 1. Once back under green the race got interesting as Givens and Brett Adkins began a side by side duel that lasted for eleven laps when Adkins finally wrestled the top spot away with a strong move out of turn 2.
Once out front Adkins put it on cruise control as they battled for position behind him. With the laps winding down Adkins began working lapped traffic allowing Wesley Givens to close the gap. As the two headed to the white flag Adkins’s advantage had shrunk to a car length. But Adkins had just enough to pick up the victory. Rounding out the top five were Wesley Givens, Ryan Toole, James Givens and Wayne Carroll. Daniel Loth picked up the Pitts Lumber rookie of the Race Award with his tenth place finish.
