CANANDAIGUA, NY_ It was an emotional victory lane for Justin Haers as the DIRTcar big block Modified racing star won a feature event for the first time in two years at Canandaigua Speedway last Saturday night. Once again, track officials had to fight off Mother Nature and did so successfully, getting the entire racing program done by 9:40pm. Rain did fall during intermission and at times during the feature but didn't cause any problems in getting the complete show in for the racing fans.  Haers took the lead off a lap 33 restart and would have no problem in going on to the victory.

In victory lane, Haers and his entire family choked up when he talked about his wife, Mel, and the recent battle she was having with cancer. For Justin, it was a time to celebrate but to also think about Mel and what she has been going through.

Unfortunately for Danny Johnson, it was the second week in a row that he was just short of a feature victory on the half-mile Ontario County Fairgrounds oval. Two weeks ago, Danny took the white flag in a 50 lap feature as the leader only to see the engine let go in the Mike Payne owned Bicknell chassis. Last week, Danny was behind the wheel of the Randy Chrysler owned 21K and proceeded to move out to a big lead. Following a lap 33 yellow, Haers, who was running second at the time, got a good restart and slipped by Danny for the lead. It was evident that Danny had problems and by the time the race was over, he had fallen to fourth place.

Steve Paine, the current DIRTcar Modified points leader at Canandaigua Speedway, finished second while Derrick Podsiadlo ran to an impressive third place showing. Johnson was fourth and Paul Habeck took home fifth.

In the 25 lap BRP 360 Late Model DART Black Rock/Canandaigua Challenge, it was Dick Park picking up his first career 360 Late Model victory. John Waters was second followed by Mike Wonderling in Third. Mike Wonderling Jr. was fourth and Dave Miller was fifth. The event was the first of three 2010 scheduled DIRT Black Rock/Canandaigua Challenge events.

DIRTcar Sportsman driver Steve Gray was the feature winner as he finished better than two seconds ahead of runner-up finisher Justin Henderson. Third was Karl Comfort followed by Paul Guererri in fourth and Daryl Hilkert in fifth.

Bryan Lyons took the win in the Factory Stock/Pure Stock main. In second was George LaVare Jr. followed by Ross Lurcock. Rounding out the top five was Marc Minutolo and Don Drave.
