Delmar, DE…..The Delaware Motorsports Complex is in full racing mode for both the Delaware International Speedway and the US 13 Dragway. The action has been non-stop all season. Track promoter/owner Charlie Cathell will soon hand over the reins for the night to the Delaware State Police & Camp Barnes, Inc. for the running of the 40th Annual Camp Barnes Benefit races.

In just a little more than a week, the track will hold the annual benefit races on Tuesday, July 10, 2012, (rain date July 11). The gates open 4PM, racing at 7PM. Gen. Adm. is only $17 and the pits fee is $27.

Who will take the title wins this year. Last year Matt Jester won big block, Ricky Elliott super late model, Matt Hill in crate model, Jordan Watson in crate modified Ty Short in mod lite, and Bill Brittingham took home the Little Lincoln race win. The same divisions will run this season along with the Delmarva Chargers & Trucks class being added to the card for the first time.

Usually a hand full of visiting drivers from around the local states contends for the title with our Delaware drivers. Another big incentive is the bonus pay outs and additional lap’s money. Look for the racing being at its finest. It’s a great night of fun.

The benefit is the main source to raise monies to hold the camp for the children. All proceeds are raised for the Camp Barnes, Inc. a camp for youths between the ages of 10 - 13 years old to attend the camp at no cost to the parent or guardian. The summer camp is an overnight residential camp run by the Delaware State Police. Camp Barnes accommodates 60 campers per week for six weeks. The camp is in session from early July through August. All children are eligible to attend regardless of family income.

The camp provides numerous benefits to youths learning basic tools to use in everyday trades. Also, team building fundamentals, talent shows, swimming lessons, canoe rides are some of the events. Camp Barnes was originally designed to provide a way for children that could not attend summer camp an opportunity to experience life at a summer youth camp. Camp Barnes has remained basically unchanged, providing Delaware children with these outdoor experiences and lessons.

For any information contact Det. Jeff Hudson at 302-381-3000 or visit the camps web at www.campbarnes.net or the tracks web at www.delawareracing.com or www.redbud69racing.com. Support the benefit and make sure to take in a family night of fun and some great racing action. The tracks hot line is 302-846-3968.

So come out and support the drivers, and the benefits for the camp.

Now the regular Saturday night racing action has been fun, & wild. Every class has provided close racing up to the checkered flag. The big block has had only 3 different drivers take the checkered, of Jamie Mills, H J Bunting and Jo-Jo Watson. Where the super late has had 8 different drivers out of the 11 events; the AC Delco crate mods also had 8 different drivers win. The crate model has had 6 different feature winners and the mod lites has only had 4 different winners.

The Camp Barnes Benefit will be like no other event and all for a good cause. The Delaware State Troopers and Camp Barnes, Inc. put this event on every year and always entertains the huge crowd of fans and racers. Support from the racers, and fans are always a success and it is all for a good cause. Your support is needed and it is a great night of family fun. It’s a full night of racing action.

Each Saturday the 5 regular divisions put on a spectacular race. This Saturday night the URC Sprints return to the clay, and on July 7 the only “Topless Night” of the year will return. The cars roofs are removed from the cars where you can see the driver in the cock pit better and how he/she is handling the car.

The speedway is located on the Delaware Motorsports Complex just one mile north of the MD / DE state line, 50 minutes South of Dover, DE and 30 minutes west from the beaches on Sussex Hwy. The complex is also the home of the U S 13 Dragway quarter mile strip, of Delaware International Speedway (DIS) or the complex.
