FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE:

MICHAEL THOMPSON’S NOVICE SEASON A HUGE SUCCESS; BIG PLANS AHEAD FOR 2011

Holland, PA- December 10, 2010 - Third generation racer Michael Thompson of Holland, PA completed a successful first season in QMA (Quarter Midgets of America) Quarter Midget Racing in 2010.  Mike’s grandfather Bruce was a winning Modified and Sprint Car driver and his father Len was a successful 410 sprint car driver with multiple feature wins at both Williams Grove and Port Royal Speedways.  Mike has shown that like his father and grandfather he can race his way to Victory Lane.  At just 6 years of age Mike proved that he has the skill and focus that it takes to be a successful race driver.

Thompson Motorsports focused their racing on the dirt tracks in Region 2 of QMA with their home track for 2010 being Sandstone Speedway in Atco, NJ which is the home of the South Jersey QMA club.  Mike completed his Novice School training program in April and his season opened in Atco on May 7th with a 2nd place finish in the Junior Novice class.  His first win of the year came on June 11th after starting on the outside of row 2.  On July 16th Thompson Motorsports picked up their 2nd win of the year and started on a streak of 3 wins and 2 second place finishes in a 5 race span.  Mike then moved up the Unrestricted Junior Novice division.  September 25th was a highlight of the season as it was the annual “Clash in the Pines” race which is the biggest race of the year for SJQMA.  Mike was 2nd fastest in time trials and started the 25 lap feature from the outside pole.  He led from the start until drawing a #4 pill for the inversion for the second half of the race.  He started on the outside of row 2 for the final 12 lap segment and worked his way back to the lead ultimately winning by a full straightaway.  For the final 2 races of the year Mike moved up to the highly competitive Junior Honda class where he raced against kids as old as 8 that have as many as 4 years of Quarter Midget experience.  End of season totals saw the team compete in 27 races on 4 different tracks in 3 different states (PA, NJ, DE.)  Mike ended up with 6 A-Main wins, 8 second place finishes, and 2 third place finishes.  The #11 finished 1st or 2nd in more than half of the races entered this year- amazing for a 6 year old novice driver!

Primary sponsorship for the team is provided by Thompson Motor Service of Penndel, PA.  Associate sponsorship comes from Penndel Auto Parts and Scrappy’s Auto Service.  Product sponsors include VRP Shocks, Hoosier Racing Tires, and Simpson Performance Products.  In 2010 the team utilized Bullrider Chassis and A-Main Motors.

For 2011 the team has purchased a second Bullrider Chassis and is building a Junior Stock engine so that Mike can compete in both the Junior Honda class and the Junior Stock class.  Running 2 classes will allow Mike to gain more valuable seat time.  The team’s Honda Engine will again be built by A-Main Motors with the Junior Stock “Deco” engine being built by Lederer Motors.  SJQMA will again be the team’s home club and they anticipate running most of the shows on the SJQMA schedule.  Thompson Motorsports plans do some more traveling in 2011 and will hopefully visit some new tracks for the first time.  They also plan to try their hand at asphalt racing and are considering competing in QMA’s Eastern Grand National event on asphalt which will be held at the nearby Oaklane Quarter Midget club.  Details of the team’s schedule are still being finalized, but the Thompson Motorsports team looks to compete in over 40 events in the 2011 season.  The team’s primary goals for 2011 are to have fun, gain more experience, and pick up a few wins along the way!
